The following page contains various references to the Godzilla franchise and other Toho Kaiju films within the Ultra Series.

References

=General

  • Both Godzilla and Ultraman were creations of Eiji Tsuburaya.
  • Godzilla can be seen as the "grandfather" of the Kyodai Hero genre, specifically his portrayal in Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster.
  • The Toho heroes Greenman, Godman, and Zone Fighter are quite obviously based on Ultraman.
  • Jet Jaguar is also quite clearly based on Ultraman.
  • Toho and Tsuburaya Productions collaborated on the films The Last Dinosaur and Daigoro vs. Goliath
  • Many Toho suits and roars would be used in the Ultra Series, though specific references will be listed below.

Ultra Q

  • The monster Gomess, who appears in the first episode, os modified from the MosuGoji suit.
  • Litra, who also appears in the first episode, is modified from a Rodan puppet used in Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster.
  • The monkey Kaiju Goro, who appears in the second episode from the series, is modified from the ShodaiKongu suit, sporting a different head and an attacked tail.
  • The roars were Varan and Baragon were recycled for the monsters Namegon and Pagos.
  • The monster Peguila's roar was originally a high-pitched Maguma roar, but was later changed to be a combination of Godzilla and Varan's roars.
  • Manda's puppet from Atragon was reused for the Kai Dragon, completely unchanged.
  • Gorgos's roars are reused from the Toho King Kong and Godzilla.
  • Episode 8 of the series uses stock footage of military scenes from Rodan to illustrate the military killing it's titular monster, Mongular.
  • The monster Tarantula bears a similar appearance to Kumonga, albeit sporting much darker colors.
  • The roars for the monster Balloonga are altered versions of Dogora roars.
  • The monster Larugeus was modified from the Litra puppet, which was in turn modified from Rodan.
  • The 1/8 Humans, named for being an eighth the size of a normal human, are somewhat similar to Mothra's Shobijin, as both are humans that are remarkably small in size.
  • The monster Pagos was famously modified from the Baragonsuit (ShodaiBara), sporting a different head. The monster even has the same roar, and the same two abilities, the ability to burrow and to fire an energy beam form it's mouth.
  • Ragon's roar was modified from the Toho King Kong, but sped up.
    • Ragon's radioactive ray is very similar to Godzilla's atomic breath.
  • The Giant, a large humanoid featured in Ultra Q, is vaguely similar to Toho's Frankenstein, as both are gigantic humanoids wearing tattered-looking clothes.
  • The monster Sudar reuses the prop for the Giant Octopus which appeared in King Kong vs Godzilla and War of the Gargantuas. It is completely unchanged.
    • his episode is based off of Eiji Tsuburaya's early proposal for the film that went on to become the original Godzilla.
  • The character Lily uses a reused Matango laugh, albeit changed to sound more akin to a little girl.
  • The monster suit for the monster Todora is actually the Maguma suit, completely unchanged and even featuring the same roar: A combination of elephant cries and Rodan's screech.

Ultraman

  • The roar for the first monster of the series, Bemular, is a modified Godzilla roar.
    • Bemular also bears a vague resemblance to Godzilla, being a reptilian creature with spiky protrusions on his back.
    • Bemular's Pale Blue Heat Wave is very similar to Godzilla's atomic breath.
  • The Alien Baltans' iconic laugh is reused from the Toho film Matango. However, the laugh would end up becoming more popularly known for Baltan.
  • The monster Neronga was the second Kaiju to be modified from Baragon's suit, albeit this time with more changes.
    • Neronga was even played by Harou Nakijima.
    • Neronga also reuses Baragon's roar, and retains his burrowing abilities
  • Rather than having his roar reused from a Toho monster, the monster Guesra's roar was reused for a Toho monster, being shared with the Go! Greenman iteration of Minilla.
  • The monster Antlar uses a sped-up Rodan roar
  • The monster Red King's famous "Shparr!" sound is made using a combination of high pitched Godzilla roars (typically used when Godzilla is injured) and Gaira's roars from War of the Gargantuas
    • During a scene in episode 8, Red King's debut, the monster uses a combination of Godzilla and the Toho King Kong's roars when Ultraman grabs his throat
  • Red King's suit may or may not have been modified to become Daigoro's mother. This would make sense as Toho and Tsuburaya collaborated on the film.
  • The monster Chandora, modified form Peguila's suit, uses a low-pichted Baragon roar in combination with a reused King Kong roar to create it's sound
  • Magular is the third Kaiju to utilize the Baragon suit, and the most heavily modified.
    • Magular uses a high-pitched Baragon roar and retains Baragon's burrowing ability
  • The small monster Pigmon, who reuses the Garamon suit from Ultra Q, uses reused roars from the Giant Lizard seen in King Kong vs Godzilla.
  • Gabora was the final Kaiju to utilized the Baragon suit, with the modifications made for Magular removed and a reused Neronga head (sans the horns) used, as well as his signature head plates.
    • Gabora's Uranium Ray is very similar to Godzilla's atomic Breath.
    • While the previous reuses of Baragon's suit utilized his original roar in some variation or another, Gabora uses the Toho King Kong's roar.
    • Like the previous uses of the Baragon suit, Gabora retains Baragon's signature burrowing ability.
    • Though likely coincidental, "Gabora" is spelt very similar to "Gabara".
      • However, Gabor actually predates Gabara by 3 years
  • Jirass, the most (in)famous use of a modified Toho costume, was portrayed Haruo Nakajima
    • Jirass's roar is modified Godzilla roar.
    • The Jirass suit itself, is actually a modified MosuGoji suit, with the exception of the head, which is actually the head of the DaisensoGoji suit. This arrangement is due to the rest of the 1964 suit been used for Gomess and the head was covered in hair and long spikes. Those were cut off and replaced with the '65 Goji head.
    • In the Latin American dub of the episode in which he debuts, Jirass is referred as Godzilla.
    • Indecently, Jirass is just Gojira's name without the "Go" katakana, a elongation kana after the "Ra" katakana and a "Su" katakana.

Jirass also has Godzilla's Iconic power Atomic Breath, but Jirass' ray is called the Electric Heat Ray.
