*I love Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. They are in my top five films list, with Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II being my favorite film ever and definitely the best of the Heisei series. They do everything right. Great stories, pacing, action, special effects, characters, monster designs, soundtracks, etc. You may be thinking this is a popular opinion but I've seen these movies get tons of hate recently in some circles of the fandom so yeah... I'm including it. I also really like Godzilla vs. Mothra now. I used to think it was rather mediocre and even bad but then I saw the Japanese version and enjoyed it a lot more. So basically I really like Takao Okawara's films, which is unfortunate because they and the director himself have been receiving lots of hate recently. Okawara is a great director.

*Speaking of the Heisei Gamera trilogy, I do have an unpopular opinion on it in that Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris is actually my least favorite of the three. It's still pretty good, but the excessive use of video gamish CGI and weird plot that makes me think that the screenwriter was on narcotics when writing some parts makes me enjoy it less than Gamera: Guardian of the Universe or Gamera 2: Attack of Legion.
*I love the 1993 Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, and Rodan designs the most (these tend to be rather unpopular designs but they've always been my favorites for those monsters).

*I love the Heisei Godzilla fights. Like, a lot. People complain about too much beams but the only one that was entirely beams was Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, the rest had plenty of awesome physical combat. I love how much weight they give to the monsters. When they do fight physically, it's always so brutal and hard-hitting, and you can feel their sheer mass through the way they move and attack. I also find beams entertaining, and the fights are pretty logical, well-staged, and dramatic. The effects also look absolutely fantasic. I dislike a lot of the Showa fights because of how anthropomorphic and ridiculous they tend to be. The Heisei fights actually felt like two giant monsters fighting rather then people in monster suits fighting.

The picture for the monster shown is the one for my favorite incarnation of that monster.

G&G's Unpopular Opinions

 • I love Godzilla vs.
 • The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Biollante, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah are on par with the Heisei Gamera trilogy critically, and I honestly enjoy them more.
 • I love the 1993 Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, and Rodan designs the most (these tend to be rather unpopular designs but they've always been my favorites for those monsters).
 • I love the Heisei Godzilla fights. The Heisei fights actually felt like two giant monsters fighting rather then people in monster suits fighting.
 • While I like GMK and it's one of my favorites, I get a real SyFy TV movie vibe when watching it, and I have no idea why. I also think there are some effect shots that look really bad (though most of it looks great), like one shot that really bugs me and stuck out to me when I watched it, which is the wide shot that shows Godzilla blasting all of the jets with his atomic breath, which just looks really bad. The atomic breath animation looks like something out of a fan film.
 • I don't really care for Jun Fukuda's Showa Godzilla movies. For some reason a bunch of people are starting to like them a lot, but I find most of them either bad or just mediocre, and most of them are boring. The majority of the fanbase people seem to love Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 1974 a ton but besides the fights I found it rather mediocre and even ridiculous and stupid in some places (I hate the Planet of the Apes ripoff aliens. People love to criticize Kazuki Omori for his homages to American films in the Heisei films he wrote and directed but this was much more blatant then anything Omori did and it's stupid. It isn't even executed well, as the makeup and transformation effects look like garbage). It didn't even appeal to me that much as a kid. Fukuda's films just feel like cheesy B-Movies, and I don't like his style. He even hated them himself. The only really good Showa films in my opinion were the one's directed by Ishiro Honda, with the exception of All Monsters Attack. And I know that Godzilla vs. Hedorah wasn't directed by Fukuda but it feels like he directed it and I don't like it either. Hedorah, Gigan, and Megalon are cool villains but unfortunately their debut films are pretty bad. I would rank the majority of Fukuda's films under my top 10 least favorites.
 • I don't care for Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, either. The fights were too short as they kept on getting interrupted by Kiryu needing to be fixed again for the slightest hits, and Akane spends most of the film whining and moaning about how she should've never been born and I never really found her that compelling. The little girl is also annoying and the stuff with the plant is cringy. There are also some parts where the special effects look really cartoonish (there are parts that look straight out of Loony Tunes) and just bad. I found the majority of the film to be boring. The Kiryu being the 1954 Godzilla subplot was really interesting and I love the scene where he goes on a rampage but they didn't develop it as much as I think they should and missed the golden opportunity to bring back the theme "Godzilla's Rampage" from the original film and have Kiryu do the 1954 roar. It's my least favorite Millennium film. However, it's sequel, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., is actually one of my favorites of the franchise.
 • Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I also don't like Godzilla Raids Again. The American dub is insufferable, I couldn't bring myself to watch it, and the original version is so boring. The fight was way too fast and the human characters were bland and uninteresting. It also just has some really rushed and lazy effects. I wanted to fall asleep.
