Shin Ultraman (シン・ ウルトラマン,   Shin Urutoraman) is a ultra that will appear in the 2021 Toho/Tsuburaya Productions film, Shin Ultraman. It is the eighth onscreen incarnation of the character.

Name

The name "Ultraman" is an official English transliteration of the name Urutoraman (ウルトラマン). A combination of the English words, 'ultra', spelled in katakana as ウルトラ (urutora) and 'man', spelled in katakana as マン.

Tsuburaya Productions and Toho have officially classified this incarnation of Ultraman as Shin Ultraman (シン・ ウルトラマン,   Shin Urutoraman), which is also the Japanese title of the film in which it appeared.

On August 1, 2019 Tsuburaya Productions announced that a new Ultraman film directed by Shinji Higuchi was under production.

In his statement, Higuchi remarked that "A baton has been entrusted to me that has been shining ever since I was a small child. I will solemnly strive to fulfill my responsibility to pass on that heavy, radiant baton created by my seniors."[1][4]

Design

Main article: ShinUltra.

Ultraman resembles the third Ultraman suit used in the original series. However, his physique is slender and tall. The iconic Color Timer located on his chest is missing as a result of Shin Ultraman's appearance is based on the original timer-less Ultraman design by Tohl Narita.[2] Due to the limitless nature of CGI, Ultraman lacks eyeholes and a dorsal fin to contain the zipper of the suit. His signature markings are slim and droop to his upper stomach while his predecessor's are thick and on his chest.
