Vultures (ヴァルチャー,   Varuchā) are highly-mobile piloted mechas that first appeared in the 2018 animated Godzilla film, GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle.[1] The result of improving Powered Suits with Mechagodzilla City's Nanometal technology, three Vultures were deployed as part of the United Earth's operation against Godzilla Earth. However, during the battle, the Bilusaludo triggered the Vultures' Nanometal to fuse with their pilots, bringing Haruo Sakaki to the realization that the Bilusaludo intended to Nanometalize the entire Earth. Haruo destroyed Mechagodzilla City's control room, allowing Godzilla to destroy the rest of the City. Martin Lazzari salvaged and reactivated one Vulture, but in order to prevent the cycle of destruction from continuing, Haruo sacrificed himself by flying the last Vulture at Godzilla, who destroyed it.

Design

The Vultures retain the same basic body shape as the Powered Suits but have large, bird-like wings and long gun barrels attached to either arm.

Origins

The Vultures are Powered Suits which were improved using Bilusaludo technology, specifically the Nanometal technology offered by Mechagodzilla City.[1]

History

Reiwa era

GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle

After the Bilusaludo revealed the finished design of the new "mobile weapon" to the force of United Earth soldiers who decided to stay on Earth, preparations were made to defeat Godzilla Earth, including providing protection from his atomic breath and constructing EMP Harpoons which would overload his body with electromagnetic energy. After a promising test of the Vulture, Godzilla discovered Mechagodzilla City and headed for it. Once he was close enough, the three Vultures were deployed, piloted by Haruo Sakaki, Yuko Tani, and Rilu-elu Belu-be, who distracted Godzilla to lead him to a trap point, where the anti-Godzilla plan was put into action. However, the plan was a failure, as Godzilla began converting his body's excess electromagnetic energy into heat, melting the weapons around him. Nanometal inside the Vultures suddenly began to consume their pilots, revealed to be a scheme of the Bilusaludo all along. In retaliation, Haruo then fired on the command center, blowing it up and killing Galu-gu, but leaving Yuko to succumb to the Nanometalization in the process. With Mechagodzilla City's control center destroyed, Belu-be's Vulture deactivated, then crashed and exploded. Panicked, Haruo flew Yuko to safety and pulled her from her Vulture, only to find that she was seemingly dead.

GODZILLA: The Planet Eater

A Vulture was salvaged by Martin Lazzari, but could not be activated following the destruction of Mechagodzilla City. However, after Godzilla Earth defeated Ghidorah, Martin was able to activate the Vulture using active Nanometal harvested from Yuko's comatose body. Realizing that the same events which had transpired would occur again so long as he and the Nanometal survived, Haruo took Yuko's body into the last Vulture and flew it toward Godzilla, telling the monster to finally burn away the last remnant of the lives he had destroyed. Godzilla obliged, firing his atomic breath at the Vulture, which crashed and exploded.
