Hey kaiju fans, it's Titanollante, and today we're talking about the Heisei incarnation of the King of the Monsters: Godzilla!

Intro

An irradiated Godzillasaurus, the Heisei Godzilla, also known as the Third Generation Godzilla, starts out being 80 meters tall in his debut film, "The Return of Godzilla," through "Godzilla vs. Biollante." After being incapacitated by the Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria, the Heisei Godzilla goes into hibernation for a period of two years, after which he feeds on a nuclear submarine, revitalizing him and causing him to grow in size to 100 meters. In this empowered state, the Heisei Godzilla is known as Powered-up Third Generation Godzilla, or alternatively Fourth Generation Godzilla. In "Godzilla vs. Destoroyah," as a result of the explosion of Birth Island, Godzilla absorbs a large amount of radiation, turning the monster into Burning Godzilla. This iteration of the Monster King was portrayed by original Hedorah and Gigan suit actor Kenpachiro Satsuma throughout all seven Heisei films, while Wataru Fukuda played the Godzillasaurus.

The Heisei King of the Monsters does not retain the heroic personality of the second Showa Godzilla, instead returning to the villainous persona of the original. However, while the original Godzilla appeared actively vengeful towards humanity, the Heisei G is initially portrayed as a sympathetic and tragic being who is simply lost in human civilization and trying to survive, causing destruction as a consequence. Progressively, he began actively causing destruction and was portrayed as the primary villain in a couple of movies. In "GVMGII," the Big G began transitioning into an anti-hero character, and raised an infant member of his species as his son. In the last two films of the Heisei series, Godzilla battled against monsters more malevolent than himself, while the character Miki Saegusa insisted that Godzilla was an intelligent being with human-like sentiments—shown in "GVDestoroyah," where he displays visible grief and anger when his adopted son is killed by Destoroyah.

Design

The Heisei Godzilla's look is mostly consistent throughout his film appearances, with details like dorsal plate shape, neck length and eye color being the biggest differences, although his initial design in "The Return of Godzilla" looks substantially different from subsequent suits. The nicknames for the Heisei Godzilla suits are: 84Goji, BioGoji and GhidoGoji, BatoGoji, RadoGoji, and lastly MogeGoji and DesuGoji.

Origins

In "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah," it's revealed that the Heisei Godzilla is actually a mutated Godzillasaurus. The character Kenichiro Terasawa hypothesized that a Godzillasaurus living on Lagos Island in the Marshall Islands was exposed to the Castle Bravo hydrogen bomb test conducted at nearby Bikini Atoll in 1954 and transformed into Godzilla. The Futurians, a group of time travelers from the year 2204, used this hypothesis to travel back to Lagos Island in 1944 and move the Godzillasaurus off the island to the Bering Sea, where they presumed it would die far from nuclear testing. However, the Futurians were responsible for creating this Godzilla in the first place, as a nuclear submarine crashed in the dinosaur's vicinity in the 1970's, transforming it into the same Heisei Godzilla. Meaning, the Heisei Goji is not the 1954 Goji, and neither Godzilla was erased from history. Check out this video for a more in-depth explanation.

History

This video would literally be over 30 minutes long if the Heisei Godzilla's history was included, so it isn't. It's in its own separate video, which you can choose to watch right here. Onto the abilities.

Abilities

Atomic Breath: The Heisei Monster King's distinctive weapon is a focused 500,000 degree Celsius beam of radiation released from his mouth capable of causing large explosions and severely wounding monsters at point-blank range. Despite its power, some of the Big G's enemies have proven resistant to the standard atomic breath.

Spiral Heat Ray: A stronger variation of the standard atomic breath, this was an attack wrapped in an electrical spiral. Godzilla first used this beam to decapitate King Ghidorah's middle head after his regular atomic breath was shown having little effect on King Ghidorah. This first iteration of the spiral breath is still blue in color, but is surrounded by a purplish spiral of energy, and before Godzilla fires it his dorsal plates are surrounded in blue electricity.

As a result of Godzilla absorbing Fire Rodan's life energy in "GVMGII," the color of this beam was changed to red, and it was so powerful that a few blasts of it were enough to destroy Super Mechagodzilla and SpaceGodzilla, though Destoroyah was able to withstand several hits.

The Big G fires a different red spiral ray in each film: first the Uranium Atomic Heat Ray, peaking at 1.2 million degrees Celsius; then the Burn Spiral Heat Ray or Nuclear Fusion Heat Ray at around 900,000 degrees Celsius; and Burning Godzilla's two different beams, the Burning Heat Ray and the Infinite Heat Ray. The Infinite Heat Ray was utilized against Destoroyah once Burning Godzilla began to enter meltdown, and is said to increase immeasurably in power each time Godzilla uses it.

Nuclear Pulse: The King of the Monsters can emit atomic energy in all directions from every inch of his body in a short-range pulse. First seen in his fight against Biollante, where he used it to break free from Biollante's tendrils, he also utilized this attack against King Ghidorah when the latter was attempting to strangle Godzilla with his necks. During his battle with Mothra, the Big G used a nuclear pulse to break free of the 3-D mirror Mothra created with her scales. After being struck with Mechagodzilla's Shock Anchor harpoons, Goji discharged a form of energy up the cables, severely damaging the mech. Fighting SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla discharged energy through his physical blows which overloaded him with energy. After absorbing Fire Rodan's life force, Godzilla demonstrated the ability to give off huge amounts of radiation and heat so intense that it caused Super Mechagodzilla's synthetic diamond armor to literally melt, allowing the mech to be easily destroyed by Godzilla's spiral ray. In "GVDestoroyah," when Godzilla's body temperature begins to approach critical levels due to his meltdown, he constantly emits more powerful orange-colored nuclear pulses which while ineffective against the Super X3, did stun Destoroyah a few times and caused the area surrounding Godzilla to erupt in flames. In this case, the nuclear pulses appear to be uncontrollable and are a symptom of Godzilla's meltdown.

Durability: The Heisei Godzilla is extremely durable and resistant to conventional human weaponry, and his cells (G-cells) are a sought-after scientific commodity. In addition to being used to genetically engineer plants to be resistant to drought, G-cells give rise to the mutant creature Biollante, who retains the Big G's durability and healing factor, and who is also said to be incapable of dying. In "GVKing Ghidorah" the radiation dose absorbed from a nuclear submarine allowed Godzilla to purge the ANEB from his body, and after Fire Rodan imparted his energy into Godzilla, he was able to rapidly reform his destroyed second brain.

Burning Godzilla had absorbed enough radiation from the Birth Island explosion that his power and regeneration were enhanced, shown when Destoroyah's Horn Katana left only external injuries despite slicing straight through his body. Godzilla also survived spending five years inside Mount Mihara, and falling into a volcanic fault and swimming through miles of molten, 1500-degree magma in "GVMothra."

Physical Strength: The Heisei Godzilla often prefers to battle his opponents from a distance using his atomic breath rather than up close. When forced to battle an opponent up close, the Monster King still displayed vicious strength, shown when he lifted King Ghidorah by his tails and slammed him onto the ground repeatedly, and when he nearly strangled Rodan up close when the latter attempted to attack Godzilla while he was on the ground. He was also able to almost effortlessly lift Mechagodzilla by its head and throw it, despite its incredible mass.

Amphibiousness: Godzilla has an amphibious lifestyle, and is as adept a fighter underwater as he is on land. He engages opponents in the sea on multiple occasions, fighting Battra, Biollante and Mothra either beneath or on the surface of the waves. Also, being submerged does not impede his atomic ray, as seen in "GVKing Ghidorah."

Intelligence: This Godzilla often reacts on animal cunning, shown through his conditioned response to the Super X's flares and Dr. Hayashida's magnetic wave transmitter, and through instinct, as he was said to use magnetic patterns in the atmosphere to navigate like birds. He was still capable of independent thought, however, and according to Miki Saegusa, of human-like sentiments as well; corroborated by his mourning the death of Godzilla Junior. In "GVSpaceGodzilla," during the final battle, Godzilla was the first to figure out that SpaceGodzilla was drawing energy from the Fukuoka Tower and demolished the Tower with the help of Land Moguera.

The Heisei Godzilla was also psychic on some level. He had some manner of psychic link with Godzilla Junior and has several times demonstrated the ability to locate potential opponents from great distances. He was able to shrug off Miki Saegusa's attempts at psychic influence during a face-to-face encounter in "GVBiollante," and even when she was aided by the technology of Project T in "GVSpaceGodzilla."

Energy Absorption & Projection: Because Godzilla's heart is a biological nuclear reactor, he relies on nuclear power to sustain his metabolism, and derives his sustenance from absorbing energy from active man-made nuclear reactors. In one case the energy absorbed from a nuclear sub was enough to allow Godzilla's immune system to purge the Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria from his body and cause him to grow 20 meters in height. When Birth Island exploded, Godzilla absorbed a tremendous influx of radiation which made him substantially more powerful, though it eventually lead to his meltdown. According to Kenichi Yamane, Godzilla's heart contained enough nuclear power to create "a burst of energy unseen since time began" that would cause the Earth's atmosphere to ignite if it exploded. If Godzilla's meltdown was not kept under control by G-Force's freezer weapons, his heart would have melted down into the Earth's core and caused the planet to implode.

Godzilla is also able to weaponize his own nuclear power in the form of his atomic breath or nuclear pulse, and constantly emits lethal amounts of radiation. In "GVSpaceGodzilla," Godzilla emits energy through his punches. In "GVDestoroyah," Godzilla attempts to revive his son by breathing energy into him, which manages to briefly stir Junior to life. When Godzilla melts down, he imparts his energy into Junior's corpse, reviving and mutating him into a fully-grown Godzilla.

Weaknesses: The Monster King is shown to have a critical weakness to cadmium, an element commonly used to slow nuclear reactions. The Super X fired its full payload of cadmium missiles into the monster's mouth, temporarily stopping his heart and knocking him unconscious. It was also utilized by the Super X3 to freeze Burning Godzilla. In "GVMGII," the Big G is revealed to have a second brain in his spine, and Super Mechagodzilla paralyzed him from the waist down by destroying it. It was also suggested in "GVSpaceGodzilla" that Godzilla has a soft spot under each armpit, but this alleged weak point was never successfully exploited.

The only other human-made weapon shown to be effective against Godzilla was Dr. Shiragami's Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria (ANEB), bacteria genetically engineered from G-cells designed to consume radioactivity. The ANEB managed to lower the radioactivity within Godzilla's body enough to force him into hibernation for two years. Godzilla also went through Meltdown after the monster's internal reactor was unable to cope with the huge influx of radiation he absorbed from the Birth Island explosion.

Trivia

According to concept artist Shinji Nishikawa, Godzilla was originally written to be a Tyrannosaurus rex prior to being mutated. Nishikawa, however, said he couldn't accept the idea that Godzilla was mutated from a Tyrannosaurus, so he came up with the idea for the Godzillasaurus and submitted concept art of it to Toho, ultimately leading to its inclusion in "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah."

It's common knowledge that a 4.8 meter-tall Cybot Godzilla was constructed for "The Return of Godzilla." However, fewer people know that there were two different 84Goji suits that were extremely similar in appearance. Similarly, "Godzilla vs. Biollante" had three suits, the second used for land scenes and the third for water scenes, while the first one made, called the No Good (NG) suit, was deemed unacceptable and appeared only in publicity photos and the scene when Godzilla approaches the Twin 21 Towers, plus a mechanical upper half for Godzilla. For "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah," the land suit, renamed GhidoGoji (Shinjuku Battle), was given a new head and used to fight Mecha-King Ghidorah and later in specific shots when it was cut in half. The 1989 sea suit was modified, renamed GhidoGoji (Hokkaido Battle), and used for the majority of "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah." And that's only scratching the surface of all the little tidbits regarding the Heisei suits. (Maybe more on that later?)

The Hokkaido Battle suit has the distinction of being the only Godzilla suit to be stolen; news that made its way around the world. [Reporter: Well tri-state citizens, beware: Godzilla is on the loose! Unbelievably, someone has stolen the rubber Godzilla model from a Japanese special effects department in Tokyo. The model was made for a new Godzilla movie coming out in Japan. Now, the theft won't affect the film's premiere, I'm sure you're glad to hear that—I know, Jerry's relieved—but the 13-foot, high-tech model is worth $39,000 and the Japanese have a real "yen" for their movie star; they want him back. Has anyone checked with… King Kong?] The suit disappeared before "Godzilla vs. Mothra" began shooting, and was to be used in several scenes too strenuous for the new BatoGoji suit. Thankfully, it was eventually retrieved and used in the final movie.

That's all we have for the Heisei Godzilla. If you haven't watched the History video yet, do so now if you'd like. See ya!

This video is solely the "History" section for the Heisei Godzilla kaiju profile. The roles he plays in the movies he's in are so long an entrenched with their plots that this section needed to be its own video. So: for the King of the Monster's abilities, origins, and trivia, check out the actual Kaiju Profile.

THE RETURN OF GODZILLA (1984): A second Godzilla appeared thirty years after the original's death following a volcanic eruption at Daikoku Island, first attacking a fish canning vessel. The lone survivor, Hiroshi Okumura, was rescued and later identified the monster as Godzilla, a fact the Japanese government kept a secret to prevent panic. Meanwhile, Godzilla encountered a Soviet nuclear submarine in the waters off Japan and attacked it, causing the Soviets to believe the Americans were responsible. To prevent a nuclear war, Japan revealed that Godzilla had returned. Both the Americans and Soviets demanded they be allowed to use their nukes against Godzilla, but Japan refused. Still, the Soviets secretly placed the controls for a nuclear attack satellite in the cargo ship Balashevo in Tokyo Bay just in case. One night, Godzilla attacked the Mihama Nuclear Power Plant, and while feeding on the radiation of the reactor, suddenly left, following a flock of birds out to sea; suggesting that Godzilla shared birds' use of magnetic patterns in the atmosphere to navigate, leading to scientist Makoto Hayashida beginning work on a magnetic wave transmitter. However, before the plan to imprison Godzilla in Mount Mihara on Izu Oshima could be completed, the monster appeared in Tokyo Bay. Following the cannons to Shinjuku, Godzilla encountered the Super X, which used flares to distract him and then fired cadmium missiles into his throat. He collapsed once the cadmium slowed down the nuclear reactions in his body, stopping his heart. While the JSDF believed the Monster King was dead, Dr. Hayashida did not. Okumura arrived in a helicopter and airlifted Hayashida and his device to Oshima island. Meanwhile, the Soviets' nuclear satellite was accidentally triggered when Godzilla destroyed the Balashevo and a nuclear missile was headed straight for the heart of Tokyo. The Soviets warned the Japanese about the missile, giving the Americans enough time to shoot it down in the skies far above Tokyo. However, the radiation showered down onto Godzilla, reviving him. Godzilla re-engaged and destroyed the Super X, and he continued his rampage until Hayashida activated his device, causing Godzilla to head toward the transmitter. Coming ashore on the island, he climbed to the summit of Mt. Mihara, where explosive charges on the volcano were detonated, triggering a controlled eruption and sending Godzilla plummeting into the crater below.

GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE (1989): Over five years after being imprisoned inside Mount Mihara, Godzilla began to stir within the volcano's crater. The JSDF's anti-Godzilla unit was placed on high alert, while the government, with the help of geneticist Genshiro Shiragami, began work on the Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria (ANEB)—bacteria engineered from G-cells designed to kill Godzilla by consuming the radiation inside him. Shiragami had accepted for the sole purpose of acquiring G-cells, which he spliced into a rose containing his dead daughter's cells to make it immortal. When a terrorist group learned of the ANEB however, they placed explosives on Mt. Mihara and demanded the ANEB be handed over or else Godzilla would be released. The government complied, but the exchange was sabotaged by a Saradian agent who stole the ANEB. The charge exploded, and Godzilla was released once again.

As Godzilla swam toward mainland Japan, the JSDF sent the Super X2 to engage the Big G, but was quickly forced to retreat due to damage from his atomic breath. Godzilla made his way to Lake Ashi, where Biollante had taken root, and stared at the creature, which attacked him out of panic. Godzilla retaliated and set Biollante aflame, who proceeded to break apart into energy spores and float away, allowing Godzilla to return to the ocean. Later, low on nuclear energy, he searched for a power plant to feed off. Meanwhile, the ANEB was successfully recovered from the Saradia Oil office in Osaka, and rockets loaded with ANEB were quickly assembled. The Super X2 engaged Godzilla but was destroyed, and the Monster King made his way to the city center where he was injected with ANEB rockets. The next day, Godzilla showed no signs of being affected. The JSDF responded by raising his body temperature with Maser beams when he arrived at Wakasa Bay, weakening him. Right then, Biollante's spores rained onto the ground, and soon the Plant Beast Biollante emerged, destroying all of the JSDF's units and attacking Godzilla. Both monsters were severely wounded, but Biollante's corrosive sap spray raised Godzilla's body temperature even further. As Biollante's spores ascended into the sky, Godzilla collapsed on his way back to the sea. As the tides washed over him, his temperature lowered, and he regained enough strength to go back out to the sea.

GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH (1991): The JSDF closely monitored Godzilla over the course of two years following his encounter with Biollante, but it appeared he was too weak to ever leave the water. One day, a group of time-travelers from the 23rd century arrived in the spaceship MOTHER, claiming that Godzilla would return soon and destroy Japan, and that this could be prevented by erasing Godzilla himself from history. Citing a book written in the future by Kenichiro Terasawa, they offered to travel back to 1944 to teleport away a dinosaur believed to have mutated into Godzilla. The plan was quickly enacted, with Futurian Emmy Kano, the cyborg M11 and a few individuals from the present day being sent back in time. Once they arrived, they witnessed the battle between Japanese and American forces. The Godzillasaurus appeared then and fought off the Americans, but was gravely wounded by shells and artillery. After the Japanese soldiers left, the spaceship KIDS was used to teleport the Godzillasaurus to the Bering Sea, where they believed it would die, far away from nuclear testing. In the dinosaur's place, Emmy secretly left behind three genetically-engineered creatures called Dorats. When KIDS returned to the present, the Futurians' leader reported Godzilla had vanished from the Sea of Japan. However, in place of Godzilla, the three-headed dragon King Ghidorah appeared to terrorize Japan. The Futurians had used the Castle Bravo test to create Ghidorah and erased Godzilla from history so that he couldn't stop their monster. Meanwhile, Miki Saegusa remarked that she could sense Godzilla moving—something that, along with everyone still remembering Godzilla, suggested that Godzilla hadn't really been erased from history. Thinking that Godzilla was their only defense against King Ghidorah, the Japanese authorities sent a nuclear submarine to the Bering Sea to transform the Godzillasaurus they believed was there into a new Godzilla. Instead, en route to the Bering Sea, the sub found Godzilla, curing his ANEB infection and causing him to grow to 100 meters in height. Godzilla came ashore in Hokkaido, prompting the Futurians to send King Ghidorah against him. The monsters dueled, and eventually Ghidorah gained the upper hand. Terasawa, Emmy and a reprogrammed M11 mounted an assault on MOTHER, destroying the computer controlling King Ghidorah and allowing Godzilla to take the upper hand and sever King Ghidorah's middle head with his spiral heat ray. Emmy then used KIDS to teleport MOTHER in front of Godzilla, who proceeded to destroy it and the Futurians inside of it, and then shoot down an escaping Ghidorah.

The revitalized Godzilla rampaged across Japan. To stop him, Emmy traveled to 2204, recovered King Ghidorah's corpse, and used the technology of her time to transform him into a cyborg: Mecha-King Ghidorah. No match for his modified opponent, Godzilla was captured with the mecha's Machine Hand. However, while transporting the Monster King, Mecha-King Ghidorah had his wings blasted out, and fell into the sea as a result. Emmy escaped the mech just in time, and returned to the future. Meanwhile on the ocean floor, Godzilla regained consciousness.

GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA (1992): After a meteor crashed in the Pacific Ocean, it awakened both Godzilla and the dark divine moth Battra. Godzilla surfaced when Mothra's egg was mid-transportation from Infant Island to Japan, and proceeded to attack the barge. The egg hatched into a larval Mothra which fought Godzilla until Battra arrived and dragged Godzilla to the seafloor. Mid-battle, a volcanic fault opened beneath them and both were pulled into the magma below. Presumed dead, the monsters actually simply swum through the molten rock, with Godzilla emerging from Mount Fuji and making his way toward Yokohama. There, he found Mothra, now in Imago stage, fighting against an Imago Stage Battra. Battra knocked Mothra aside and attacked Godzilla, who easily overpowered him. Mothra and Battra's onslaught proved too much for Godzilla, and he was subdued. While being carried out to sea by the moth monsters, Godzilla killed Battra and they both fell into the ocean.

GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA II (1993): Godzilla appeared at Adonoa Island, where a group of scientists discovered a prehistoric egg guarded by the mutant pteranodon Rodan. Godzilla attacked Rodan, giving the scientists enough time to escape with the egg. Godzilla blasted Rodan with his atomic breath, seemingly killing him, and he followed the stolen egg back to Kyoto. The egg hatched into a baby Godzillasaurus, named Baby Godzilla by Azusa Gojo, whom it had imprinted upon. As Godzilla approached the institute housing the hatchling, the United Nations-formed military task force known as G-Force sent their weapon, Mechagodzilla, to intercept him. After Mechagodzilla knocked Godzilla to the ground with its impressive arsenal, it fired its shock anchor cables into Godzilla to electrocute him. Godzilla managed to reverse the electrical current, causing Mechagodzilla to short-circuit and fall. Godzilla got up and continued to Kyoto, but eventually left after he was unable to find the hatchling. Baby Godzilla was kept at G-Force's headquarters, where he was raised and studied. It was soon discovered that Baby possessed a second brain in his hips which controlled his lower body. From this information, a plan was devised to use Baby to lure the Big G, destroy his second brain and then kill him with Mechagodzilla. Unable to stop the Baby's use as bait, Asuza opted to accompany him on the trip to the Ogasawara Islands where the operation would be taking place. En route, the revived Rodan, now Fire Rodan, intercepted the canister holding Azusa and Baby. Mechagodzilla and Garuda were sent in to save Baby and Asuza, and apparently killed Rodan. Shortly after, Godzilla appeared and engaged Mechagodzilla, which combined with Garuda to form Super Mechagodzilla not long after the battle commenced. Super MG paralyzed Godzilla, fired its shock anchor cables directly at his hips, and discharged electricity until the Monster King's second brain was burst. Before the mech could kill Godzilla however, Baby escaped from his canister and called out to the mortally-wounded Fire Rodan, who flew over but was shot down by Mechagodzilla's mega buster. Rodan fell onto Godzilla and vanished after giving up his life force, reconstituting Godzilla's second brain. Revitalized, the Monster King rose and fired his new Uranium Atomic Heat Ray at Mechagodzilla several times, destroying it. Godzilla approached Baby, who cowered in fear. Miki Saegusa used her telepathy to tell Baby to go with Godzilla, and both he and his new adoptive father headed out to the ocean.

GODZILLA VS. SPACEGODZILLA (1994): Godzilla had taken partial residence on Birth Island, where his adoptive son, now 30 meters tall and dubbed Little Godzilla, spent all of his time. When extraterrestrial clone SpaceGodzilla arrived and began attacking Little Godzilla, the King of the Monsters came ashore and confronted the invader to defend his son. However, SpaceGodzilla proved too powerful and encased Little G in crystals before leaving. Enraged, Godzilla chased SpaceGodzilla back to Japan, eventually reaching Kumamoto. There, he had a brief encounter with M.O.G.U.E.R.A. after a rogue pilot diverted the mech's path from SpaceGodzilla to Godzilla. After the pilot was subdued by the copilots, M.O.G.U.E.R.A. headed to Fukuoka to fight SpaceGodzilla. Godzilla eventually arrived and fought his clone, but was overpowered. Soon, the Monster King realized that SpaceGodzilla was drawing most of his energy from the surrounding crystals spires and the Fukuoka Tower, which the space beast had instilled with cosmic energy. Godzilla and M.O.G.U.E.R.A., now split into Star Falcon and Land Moguera, joined forces to destroy the crystals and bring down the tower. When the tower was destroyed, SpaceGodzilla's power was drastically cut, allowing the Big G to put on a better fight. M.O.G.U.E.R.A. recombined and blew up SpaceGodzilla's shoulder crystals, making him unable to control his energy. The space monster retaliated by destroying M.O.G.U.E.R.A., but was then overwhelmed with energy by Godzilla's energetic punches. Godzilla proceeded to destroy SpaceGodzilla with his Nuclear Fusion Heat Ray, freeing Little Godzilla back on Birth Island. Godzilla swam out to sea, intent on returning to his son.

GODZILLA VS. DESTOROYAH (1995): In 1996, a nuclear reactor in Godzilla's heart ignited uranium deposits on Birth Island, causing the island to explode. Nowhere to be seen, Little Godzilla is presumed dead. Godzilla, now covered in glowing orange rashes and dubbed Burning Godzilla, resurfaced in Hong Kong and destroyed the city before disappearing. G-Force would soon realize that Godzilla's new look was a result of the Birth Island explosion, and that the nuclear fission in the Monster King's heart would cause him to explode, igniting the atmosphere and vaporizing the Earth. Without the Oxygen Destroyer, the only weapon that can kill Godzilla, and knowing that a direct attack on the Big G would cause him to explode, G-Force turned to the Super X3, armed with cadmium shells and freezer weapons. As Godzilla reached the Bungo Channel, the X3 successfully lowered his temperature, encasing him in ice. As Godzilla thawed, the fission in his heart appeared to be reducing. After, Little Godzilla, now a sub-adult and dubbed Godzilla Junior, was found heading to his nest over on Adonoa Island. G-Force then learned that while Godzilla's fission had been brought under control, his reactor heart was overheating. This would lead to a nuclear meltdown, wherein Godzilla's heart would burn down to the Earth's core and destroy the planet in less than a week. After it was learned that Godzilla was following his son, a plan was devised to lure Junior to Tokyo, where the living Oxygen Destroyer kaiju Destoroyah was, and have the crustacean kill Godzilla. Miki Saegusa reluctantly used telepathy to change Junior's course to Tokyo. When Godzilla appeared in Tokyo Bay, a new plan was proposed to use freezer weapons to freeze Godzilla as he melted down to minimize damage, which would occur once Godzilla's core temperature reached 1200 degrees Celsius.

As Godzilla and Junior reunited near Haneda Airport, Destoroyah appeared in his Perfect Form and killed Junior. Saddened, Godzilla became determined to avenge his son and confronted Destoroyah. The monsters traded blows, eventually ending with Godzilla firing into Destoroyah's exposed, wounded chest. This forced Destoroyah to split apart into multiple aggregates which swarmed the Monster King, but were defeated by a nuclear pulse. As his temperature climbed, Godzilla approached his fallen son and revived him only long enough for him to stare up at his father. As Godzilla grieved, Destoroyah reformed in his Perfect Form and grabbed Godzilla by the neck, dragging him out to the outskirts of the city. He got back on his feet and approached Destoroyah, ready for one final confrontation. Godzilla's temperature began to climb to critical levels, and his dorsal plates began melting. Giving off waves of immense heat which set the surroundings ablaze, Godzilla fired his Infinite Heat Ray at Destoroyah, mortally wounding the crustacean. Before Destoroyah could fly away, G-Force opened fire with their freezer weapons, shredding the monster's wings, causing him to hit the ground and vaporize.

With Destoroyah dead, Godzilla stood silently, ready to die in peace. G-Force opened fire on Godzilla with all their freezer weapons as he melted down. Finally, Godzilla's heart burst, and his outer body and skeleton melted away. G-Force prevented the destruction of the planet, but could do nothing to contain the catastrophic amounts of radiation pouring out from Godzilla. Just when it appeared Tokyo would be rendered uninhabitable, all the radiation vanished. Godzilla Junior was visible through the smoke, revived and transformed into a new Godzilla.

And that's Godzilla's history across the Heisei series.
