Yuji Shinoda (篠田雄二,   Shinoda Yūji) is a scientist that studies Godzilla as part of the Godzilla Prediction Network, and the main human protagonist of the film Godzilla 2000: Millennium. He and Shiro Miyasaka discovered Godzilla's "Organizer G-1."

Personality

Shinoda lives alone with a single daughter, Io; it is unclear what happened to Io's mother. Shinoda is shown to be rather stoic at home, letting Io handle their finances and cook their meals.

History

Millennium era

Godzilla 2000: Millennium

At one point in his life Shinoda worked closely with Mitsuo Katagiri and Shiro Miyasaka, but Shinoda broke away from them when Katagiri and Miyasaka formed Crisis Control Intelligence (CCI), an organization that sought to destroy Godzilla, while Shinoda sought to study him.

One night, Shinoda and his daughter Io were setting up equipment to track Godzilla's movement during a raid. Shinoda travels with his daughter in their Toyota SUV to track Godzilla and learn about him as they are a part of the Godzilla Prediction Network (GPN). He has allowed a reporter named Yuki Ichinose who is seeking to take pictures of Godzilla to accompany them. Later, Shinoda discovers the secret to Godzilla's speedy healing, Organizer G1. He takes his finding to his old colleagues at the CCI and is met with open arms by Miyasaka. Shinoda later risks his life to aid Yuki Ichinose in discovering the Millennian's intentions are to terraform the earth to suit its race. He, alongside the rest of the main cast later watch as Godzilla and Orga battle.

Trivia

• In the manga adaptation of Godzilla 2000: Millennium, Yuji lacks a beard and appears to be younger. The manga also explains that he is a widower, with Io's mother passing away years earlier from medical complications.
