I read a while back that H.G.Wells' books have all become public domain - meaning anyone can adapt the stories of this famous writer as they wish. With that said, I came up with these ideas for a possible Godzilla story. While I should point out that I've no intention to write either of these, I felt I'd show you guys anyway to see what you thought of this crossover between Godzilla and "The War of the Worlds".

Idea 1: Serious Tone

An alternative version of both "Gojira" (1954) and "War of the Worlds", where the Martians land in Japan in 1954 instead of Britain or America. At the point where their Tripods begin their assault on Tokyo, the original Godzilla makes his first appearance on land - the rest of the story been the original Godzilla fighting against the Martians, although he is initially on the defensive due to been outnumbered by the Martian's Tripods.

Neither of the two threats are considered the 'lesser evil' as the Martians intend to take over Earth and use humans as food while Godzilla's destructive nuclear power is causing the various hospitals and shelters to fill up with people suffering from radiation poisoning. As a result, Serizawa's initial refusal to use the Oxygen Destroyer is not just because of it been used by other world powers as a new super-weapon that is more deadly than any nuclear bomb, but also what may happen if he does use it to kill Godzilla and the Martians later return.

Idea 2: Modern Tone

Set in the modern day, the story begins with Godzilla and his allies (including Zone Fighter) defeating an invasion attempt by the Garoga - who try to conquer Japan using the monsters King Ghidorah, Gigan, Megalon, Mogu and Hedorah. Godzilla kills King Ghidorah by decapitating its central head, Mogu is mobbed and killed by the flying monsters while Hedorah is blasted apart (and presumed destroyed) by Zone Fighter. The Garoga recover their remaining two monsters - both of whom have been badly injured - onto their ship and retreat from Earth but, while flying close to Mars, their ship is shot down by a large heat ray and crash land on Mars.

The Garoga are captured by the Martians; a species of telepathic octopus-like creatures whom also seek to conquer Earth; it been revealed that their once lush home-world was devastated by a deadly solar-energy weapon in a violent war with the Selenites (from H.G.Wells "First Men in the Moon") and now they must find a new home as their DNA is degrading and they are running out of supplies. (To also note, the Martians and the Millennians are the same species in this case and their fighting machines take on a variety of different forms - Various Martian War Machines)

After using their powers to steal the Garoga's knowledge's before killing them, the Martians use this new knowledge to repair and enhance Gigan and Megalon before placing them under their telepathic mind control and use the Garoga's expertise in machinery to enhance their armies of Tripods and other weapons as they prepare to conquer Earth and take on a new form that would allow them to adapt to Earth's atmosphere.

The Martians' attack on Earth is a Global attack rather than been focused on one country, with both Earth's defenders (Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan/Fire Rodan, Anguirus, Baragon, Manda, Varan, Kamacuras, Kumonga, Gorosaurus, Ebirah, Battra, King Caesar, Titanosaurus and Zilla Junior) and the various Mechas used by the EDF (Kiryu, MechaGodzilla, MOGUERA, MechaMothra, Asuka Fortress, Super-X version 1, 2 and 3 and the Gotengo) splitting up to take on the Tripods attacking cities and other locations around the world. The Zone Family (alien refugees from the destroyed planet Peaceland) also aid humanity - bringing Jet Jaguar into the fray as a size-changing android created by the family that is disguised as the mascot of Yoichiro Sakimori's toy company.

During the invasion, the Selenites (revealed to have survived and having turned to pacifism following their war with the Martians, as the solar-energy weapon they used desolated the Moon's own surface environment when it overloaded and exploded) also journey to Earth to help humanity after the Zone Family convince them to help; pointing out the Martians may attempt to conquer the Moon again if they succeed with Earth. The Selenites assist humanity using their advanced knowledge of solar energy and combining it with humanity's attempts to turn King Ghidorah's carcass into Mecha-King Ghidorah, with the Selenites helping to create the Mecha's solar-paneled wings and thus provide the Mecha with a suitable energy source. The Selenites also bring two Moon Kaiju - Redmoon and Erabus - to aid humanity's kaiju in battle with the Martians

Godzilla's DNA would be acquired by the Martians at some point and used to create a variety of mind-controlled monsters (most by mutating animals from Earth) to battle Earth's forces including Dogora, Maguma, Gezora, Ganimes, Kamoebas, Giant Condors and Balkzardan, along with stealing and enhancing the body of Zilla by transforming it into Cyber-Zilla. The final part of this plan would be the Martian Leader - refusing to accept defeat when the Tempest he is piloting is brought down - transforming itself into Orga using Godzilla's DNA.

However, a major flaw in their plan would occur when Godzilla's DNA is also injected into the Martian's Red Weed; the Weed becoming sentient and modifying itself (showing traits of the Vampire plants, Maneater plants and Matango), along with generating creatures of its own to attack both human and aliens alike. These monsters include the Barem/Hitodah, Shinomura (formed by numerous Barem merging together), Deathla (formed after the Red Weed absorbs Hedorah's remains) and Barubaroi before the Red Weed transforms itself into a nightmarish version of Biollante and then finally the Biollante-King Ghidorah Hybrid.

Hope you like these ideas. Please give me feedback on what you think.

I think that you could have a timeline. 1954- Serious Tone Version, 2004- Modern Tone Version (With the difference the Aliens return to get revenge on earth)
