I've got some ideas myself for this, but I'd like to hear your opinions first to see what you guys have in mind.

1. Since Gamera is not a well known monster, I would probably like to see a film that introduces the giant turtle to american audiences. It would be like the heisei films in terms of theme (but with some campyness to it)
2. Do not.Have.A fucking. Kenny. Oh and dont make Gamera have extreamly low screen time.
3. A first really good monster to introduce would be Barugon, Gyaos, or Zedus.
4. I have some ideas for sequels. For the second film I would probably have the film be focused on Garasharp as a villain.

1. Definitely agree with you on this; Gamera's Heisei Tilogy in the 90's contained both the best films of the entire franchise and some of the best monster movies ever made, so best to use those as the stepping stone for an American release - especially since a Gamera movie would likely crash and burn if they tried to take the campy Showa-style route. Mind you, I wouldn't mind a bit of campiness as that could be funny at times, or at least a greater interaction between Gamera and the human characters (not to the point where Gamera starts talking, though).
2. Agreed on Gamera not having a lot of screen time. In terms of not having a Kenny, I couldn't agree more; give me a character like Asagi any day of the week.
3. I think Gyaos would be the best/default option; he's Gamera's most frequent enemy, so would be a good starting choice at least - with old/new monsters been introduced/created for sequels if the first movie is popular enough. Seeing you speaking of Barugon and Zedus, I can actually imagine them hybridized into one form; having Zedus' body and piercing tongue, but with Barugon's head horns, rainbow ray spikes and ice breath (from the heisei comic) - although Toho would probably threaten to sue as it would be too similar to Shin Gojira:
