The recent events in the pacific caught us entirely unaware. They were no intelligence or even scientific data that seemed to indicate the existence of such creature. However one can't help but notice that in ancients myths things , sea serpents or giant spiders are common.

Monarch secretly created program of grants to give funding to a variety of historian and anthropologist through the university of western Europe, Japan and the United States as well as few cooperation project with university in the soviet bloc to find any legend that correlate with our recent discovery in Megafauna.

While most the research is still ongoing, the priority given to legend about aquatic dragon in Asia as yielded a few interesting results. While we have countless stories to go through this common legend of Gojira from the Japanese's Izu archipelago seem to relate to what we faced last year. The knowledge of this legend in oral form is quite common inside those islands. it was brought to our knowledge through a 1912 American book on Japanese mythology Myth and legends of the pacific the creature name was mistranslated as Godzilla.

Our investigator were quick to establish a connection with this painting by Utagawa Kuniyoshi taken from a Japanese war criminal collection after the tokyo trials. It has been since place in monarch vault 8. It also associated with another painting by the same artist

Among the natives of Izu Ōshima the tales of Gojira sinking fishing ships as been present since colonization of the island. In fact, was first told to Monarch operatives during in the prelude to operation lucky dragon, but they were dismiss by the operative as mere myth. This 19th century Japanese artwork relate events that took place 200 years prior several years after the unification of Japan.

While further researching the painting as not reveal anything that interesting about the creature, at least in way to neutralise the megafauna, it does talk of a grander story that connect to the event of last years. For many years it was thought to be pure propaganda invented by the Tokugawa shogunate to dispel rumours of a surviving member of the Toyotomi clan, their rival in quest in the unification of japan, but now that we know a dragon do in fact haunt those seas, a re-examination is in order.

Toyotomi Kunimatsu, grandson of Toyotomi Hideyori, escaped from execution by Tokugawa through the use of a body double took refuge on the island of Izu Ōshima where he pretended to be a common fisherman. His exile drove his heart cruel and bitter as he longed for the power and wealth that had been promised to him in his youth. Despite his wife pleas for him to let go of hate and live his life peacefully on the island, his heart was consumed by this envy.

One day a great volcanic eruption rocked the island destroying his house and everything he had. The only thing that was left at site of the former residence was a strange glowing metal who was neither gold or silver. A desperate Kunimatsu quickly sold the metal to a blacksmith for a few coins hoping so that he and his wife could eat.

Kunisatu learned a few days later that the smith and his family had died horribly from a disease that seemed to have wasted their body from the inside and burned their skin. The man was quick to deduce a relationship between the metal he had sold and their demise as the smith had literally died in front of the material. He stole the material and carved a statue and gave it to the local lord as a gift and as expected the man and the same curse ended up afflicting him.

The exiled quickly contacted Toyotomi loyalists on the main archipelago and quickly organised a takeover of the now leaderless island. Enslaving every single inhabitants to mine of the metal that would be used to poison member of the shogunate and destabilise Japan. Most of the population at the time died from the curse metal or through the cruel treatment inflicted by upon them by the henchmen of the petty warlord . Kunisatu quickly became mad and unhinge as he ruled over his petty kingdom. Losing his hairs and withering unwilling to admit he was suffering the same curse as all those that had contact with the metal. The man would often claim Tennin spirit would visit him at night pleading him to stop the madness as it only bring further disaster as the great dragon Gojira fed on it. Kunisatu would however continue in his mad quest as it was his destiny to rule Japan.

A large deposit of the metal was extracted from the ground and as the plan was about to be put to execution the island was rocked by an earthquake. At dawn, the great dragon Gojira came out of the water and destroyed everything in its wake. Kunisatu quickly brought the metal on a boat and covered it box knowing it was more precious than anything, blind to the fact that Gojira was following them. However, once at sea, his wife opened the box containing the strange metal, attracting Gojira, to the ship and sinking it. Sacrificing herself to save the life of all the people in the capital.

Today a small nameless statue on Izu Ōshima is said to honour the young woman sacrifice.

While some of the element seemed rather fanciful, the apparition of spirit in particular, the idea that radioactive metal somehow draw our subject of study is present.

The metal extracted in the legend is so far unidentified. Perhaps it is a still undiscovered element. A monarch expedition led by Doctor Wu Chee-Jan from the republic of China was sent to Izu Ōshima do a geological survey of the island, but he has yet to contact us again.
