Wikizilla has never purely been a wiki for the Godzilla, Gamera, and King Kong franchises, and the outer limits of what we should make pages for has been the subject of spirited debate the past few years. Those debates have made it increasingly clear that approving and rejecting films and shows on a case-by-case basis with no clearly written guidelines is frustrating for all involved. It has also slowly expanded our scope beyond what our relatively small group of editors can hope to write about. To that end, Les and I have spent the past few weeks composing the rules below, with significant input from The King of the Monsters. Koopa and The Boy Who Cried Godzilla have both approved them, while Titanollante is abstaining for now. (Note: the fan film policy was written beforehand and passed 4-1, with myself, Les, Titanollante, and Koopa in favor and The King of the Monsters opposed.)

As this proposed change in policy will have a sizable impact on the site, axing some films and shows which currently have pages and approving others which do not even have sandboxes, we are releasing the rules as they currently stand for community review two weeks before they will be implemented. Please read them carefully and offer your unvarnished opinions. Don't hesitate to be specific about what works you think should qualify or not qualify under a particular rule.

Guidelines regarding other forms of media will be forthcoming.

Godzilla, Gamera, and/or King Kong films and TV shows

Wikizilla covers all films and TV shows starring these characters, who are the three main pillars of our site. Films in which they have minor or supporting roles (e.g. Godzilla in Always: Sunset on Third Street 2, Gamera in Cosplay Warrior Cutie Knight, King Kong in The Lego Batman Movie) are excluded, but those versions of the characters may receive incarnation pages.

Live-action Toho films

For a live-action, Toho-produced film outside of the Godzilla series to be covered on Wikizilla, it must fulfill at least one of four criteria:

  1. The film includes a giant monster in a substantial role. Since many giant monsters lack official height, length, and/or wingspan statistics, we do not have strict minimum size requirements. The monster should simply be large enough to dominate its surroundings; consequently, films including monsters who only stand several meters tall are more likely to qualify if the monsters terrorize settings like pre-industrial Japan. In addition, while we list them under monsters in Appearances sections for simplicity’s sake, giant robots are excluded. These two guidelines apply to all other rules in this policy which mention giant monsters.
  2. The film includes characters (e.g. Rodan and Mothra) or superweapons (e.g. the Gotengo and Maser Cannons) who previously or subsequently appeared in Godzilla media.
  3. The film is science fiction and/or horror and shares a director of special effects or equivalent position with at least one Godzilla film. Films which do not make extensive use of practical effects, or whose effects are directed by its main director, are excluded (e.g. Horror of the Wolf and Reiko, the Psyche Resurrected do not credit anyone as special effects director, and their effects were filmed alongside their drama portions).
  4. The film is directly related to another qualified Toho film or TV series (e.g. the Cyber Cop film being based on the Cyber Cop TV series, Gantz: Perfect Answer being a sequel to Gantz).

All shows must have been produced by Toho or another company which was owned by them at the time of its production. 2. The film includes a giant monster and shares a director, special effects director, screenwriter, or suitmaker with the Godzilla or Gamera series.

Why is Gunbot and War God getting removed when Koichi Kawakita and Keizo Murase worked on both respectively? ? ?

That seems to directly contradict the "At least half of its episodes were worked on by a Japanese director, special effects director, or screenwriter of a Godzilla or Gamera film."

Part of the guide.

Gunbot should be kept on the site since it was directed and written by Koichi Kawakita.

»Why is Gunbot and War God getting removed when Koichi Kawakita and Keizo Murase worked on both respectively? ? ?«

It says toward the top, "Giant robots are excluded [as giant monsters]. [This guideline] appl[ies] to all other rules in this policy which mention giant monsters." Gunbot only has robots.

About War God, I've never heard of Keizo Murase being involved and can't find anything online either. Do you have a source for that?

»My understanding is that Gunbot only has giant robots in it, so it wouldn't qualify under the definition of giant monster this policy uses (mentioned in the live-action Toho films section).

The War God and Keizo Murase pages don't mention him working on the film; where did you hear about that?«

I swore ot was on his page or mentioned somewhere

Wait why is Gunhed staying that only has Mechs to my knowledge?????

If you'll see, Gunhed is marked #3, which corresponds to 'science fiction movie with a Godzilla special effects director.'

I suppose we could look into a similar rule for TV shows, but I don't know what kind of Pandora's box that would open up.

I deleted a few replies here on accident because the button is in a super unintuitive place on the screen. So apologies for that.

»It wasnt murase actually, Koichi Takano is credited for war god«

Koichi Takano was neither a director, writer, special effects director, nor suitmaker for any Godzilla, Gamera, or Kong films, so his involvement won't be a consideration.

Koichi Takano was not a director, writer, special effects director, nor suitmaker for any Godzilla, Gamera, or Kong films, so his involvement won't be a consideration.«

But the page literally listed him as "Director of special effects" And includes that film.

His page was mostly written by K14; it should really be more specific. Eiji Tsuburaya was the director of special effects for King Kong vs. Godzilla, Takano just did some stop-motion.

I havent seen either but i know Zarkorr has Proctor whos appears to be a direct Shobijin homage

Kraa im not aware of any influnce however besides lampooning G98s billboard

Is there any interviews or behond the scenes out there that could state both films are influnced by toho.
