Godzilla vs. Kong stats

A new Chinese video promoting Godzilla vs. Kong started making the rounds last night. A lot of people are reporting it as "opening credits", which I find hard to believe, since it doesn't name a single cast or crew member, ends by showing the release date, and includes tons of Chinese text integrated into the footage (as opposed to subtitles). For now, I do not want its stats for Godzilla to be on the page, and here's why:

  • The readout for Godzilla's stats says that he is both 120 meters tall and 393 feet tall, the latter his exact height in King of the Monsters. This supports our theory that marketing materials in countries that use the metric system are just rounding up, as opposed to the filmmakers deciding that Godzilla should grow 0.2 meters between films for some reason.
  • Godzilla's weight is listed at 164,000 tons, an absurd increase from 99,634 tons in King of the Monsters. As it happens, Popular Mechanics came up with that estimate for his weight in 2014, "according to our keen analysis of the 2014 Godzilla toy and a formula developed by paleontologists to work out the mass of bipedal dinosaurs." Whoever put this together doesn't seem to have been aware of the official weight stats. The other strange stats listed below his weight are also from that article.
  • Apropos of nothing, Ghidorah's weight in this video is also wrong, at "121,00 tons."

This movie will belong to the world by the end of the month; we should not be rushing to treat whatever information we can find as gospel before then. (I've been guilty of this too, with the whole Behemoth thing. The other mods ultimately pressed for more caution, since we haven't seen any footage of him.)--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 12:24, 19 March 2021 (UTC)

Well, we got his height in feet.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 11:44, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
An HBO Max featurette used the same readout (minus the Chinese text), so I guess that ridiculous weight stat is canon now. So it goes.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 11:48, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

Telepathy(?)

Here's the Mark Russell dialogue in the Godzilla vs. Kong novelization that addresses the end of Dominion: "Three years ago, right after the fight with Ghidorah, he did something we'll call 'the big cleanup.' Some of the other Titans didn't exactly stay in line. He went on a global walkabout and set them straight. He drove Scylla from Georgia. He ran Amhuluk out of the Amazon, and so forth. Not long after, they all ended up going dormant. We think Godzilla may have sent out some sort of silent signal, although we aren't sure how."
