What is the site's policy on names? This character is called Bill in every official mention of him that I've seen so far.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 13:44, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

I think what we have is to use the character's full/real name instead of nicknames like with Joseph Brody but I think that's pretty dumb. Titanollante ( roar to me! | my footprints! ) 15:47, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
For the sake of uniformity, we could switch to using whatever names are listed in a given movie's credits.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 17:04, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

And on the other end we've got the official credits, the official Twitter, his character description... if he's constantly called "William" in the movie it would make sense to keep the name as is, but I don't think that's likely.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 17:24, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
Our general policy is that when a character's full name is given and used in some official capacity, then that's what their page is named. Every other mention of the character on the wiki would generally just use their nickname though. The King of the Monsters (talk) 17:33, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Page quote

With the back-and-forth over Randa's page quote going nowhere fast, I've hidden the current quote and will be putting it to a vote.

Option 1:

Preston Packard: “You are going to tell me everything I don't know, or I'm gonna blow your head off.
Bill Randa: “Monsters exist.

Option 2:

You heard of the USS Lawton? Neither did the public. Out of a thousand young men on that ship, I was the only survivor. They told my family she was sunk in battle, but I know what I saw. It had no conscience. No reasoning, just destroy. I spent the last thirty years trying to prove the truth of what I learned that day. This planet doesn't belong to us. Ancient species owned this earth long before mankind and if we keep our heads buried in the sand, they will take it back.

Vote here; the poll will last for 24 hours.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 20:58, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

I think those quotes should be punchy, and the first one is exactly that. The second one is too much to read just for a decoration at the top of the page, and half of it is already used on the USS Lawton page which makes it less unique. So there’s my argument. Not to wreck the poll minutes after it starts, but what do you think about just using Option 2 starting from "This planet"? Gets it down to two sentences and is distinct from the Lawton quote. I just feel weird about a character page quote where a different character is doing most of the talking.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 21:17, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
I personally agree with that. I like the second quote's substance more than the first, but it could definitely use some trimming down.Keeri'ijra (talk)
I vote for option 2-URADCY

Page quote, part 2

Option 2 prevailed, but with the poll sparking another conversation about the length of that option, I figure another poll is in order.

Why do we even need to vote on this, since when does editing need a vote?--Zillaman98 (talk)

While there are probably other reasons, I would say this is better and more efficient than an edit war, since multiple people clearly care about this.--Keeri'ijra (talk)
I frankly do not like either option given as i think option two cuts out the first half of randa mentioning himself and it should be this.

Ooo, that's a good one. I feel like that's better because it sounds more tailored to the character.--Keeri'ijra (talk)
I'm polling people because the page quote was constantly getting changed with minimal discussion and it's purely an aesthetic choice. Will probably do this more often going forward so mods aren't constantly needing to rule on contentious but minor issues. I left off the "last thirty years" sentence because the truncated quote doesn't explain what "that day" is. Since he's already talking about one of his core beliefs, it seemed personal enough. But it would be funny if this poll went to a third round.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 16:31, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
