So... I bought The Last Hope from Matt Franks limited sale. I asked him on twitter what the origins of the Garasharp is. He said that there like Titans in the MonsterVerse. Canon to what, exactly? The Last Hope has no bearing on the Heisei films, but Matt Frank can add onto his story if he wants. No reason to believe him explaining how something works in his own comic isn't the official explanation.

The Heisei trilogy is canon to it, but it is not canon to the Heisei trilogy. Matt Frank himself has even acknowledged this.

It was made unlicensed and has never been confirmed to be officially connected; none of the tie-in media are.

He was definitely bullshitting here. His point was that it's now "official," i.e. officially published and no longer a doujinshi. "Canon" it is not.

In this video (timestamped) he is clearly apprehensive about calling it canon. Regardless of what he says, there is no evidence that Kadokawa consider it canonical.
