Reigo / Raiga
|
Reigo (レイゴー, later called Raiga Reigō) (雷牙 upon evolving, is an aquatic Raiga)kaiju created by Shinpei Hayashiya who first appeared in the 2008 tokusatsu kaiju film, Reigo: King of the Sea Monsters.
Name[edit | edit source]
In early promotional material for Reigo: King of the Sea Monsters, Reigo's name was spelled in kanji as 零号 (Reigō), literally translating to "number zero." This was changed to the katakana spelling レイゴー in the final film's title, pronounced the same. Reigo's upgraded form Raiga, however, does use the kanji spelling 雷牙 (Raiga) in the title of Raiga: God of the Monsters, combining the words for "thunder" and "fang." Though, it is nonetheless noted in katakana as ライガ by some sources.
Development[edit | edit source]
Design[edit | edit source]
In Deep sea Monster Reigo vs The battleship Yamato Reigo is unique among most of Kaiju in Japanese pop culture. Instead of being traditional humanoid, Reigo seems to be more of a fusion of a dinosaur and a shark.
In Deep sea Monster Raiga Raiga stands in a humanoid posture, similar to Godzilla. He has pronounced ear holes, 2 fangs , his dorsal plates are reminiscent of Godzilla. His eyes are red and his hands seem bigger and has a smooth texture.
