California, situated on the west coast of the United States, is the country's third-largest but most populous state. Its capitol city is Sacramento. It was prominently featured as the battleground of the MUTOs and Godzilla in Godzilla and as the landing area for the Trilopod hive in Godzilla: Rulers of Earth.

The Galaxions sent Yonggary to Los Angeles after the monster's revival. He began to rampage through the city, resisting the U.S. Military's attempts to stop him, before the Daemon was destroyed, releasing Yonggary from the Galaxion's control. Desperate for their invasion to succeed, the aliens sent their own monster, the cybernetic beast Cycor, down to kill Yonggary and take over Earth. After an intense battle, Yonggary defeated Cycor, and the Galaxions retreated, fear the awakening of Yonggary's "true powers." Afterwards, Yonggary was transported away from the city to an island he could have to himself.

Godzilla
After it was studied for a time, the second MUTO spore was taken to the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository, where it lay dormant until the male MUTO's calls awoke it from its slumber 15 years later. Bursting from the mountain, the female MUTO attacked Las Vegas as she made her way to the male. Meeting up in San Francisco, the two MUTOs exchanged a stolen nuclear war head before the female began digging a nest. Godzilla arrived in the harbor, and after a brief skirmish with the military resulting in the destruction of the Golden Gate Bridge, entered the city. Godzilla engaged and killed both MUTOs while Ford Brody took the nuclear warhead out to sea on a tour boat. While Godzilla let the city, relief efforts were set up to help those effected by the Titan's clash.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters
In the wake of the MUTOs and Godzilla's fight in 2014, San Francisco became overgrown into a forest due to the Titan's radiation.
Heritage
Emergency sirens blared on Batavia Island off the coast of Northern California. United World News reporter Jack Martin, his wife, Kaori, and his colleague Mitch Lawrence ran out of a building and into a fleeing mob as cries for help filled the air. In the chaos, a large explosion echoed in the background, illuminating the silhouette of Anguirus. They fled from the creature, with Mitch reporting that there are two Anguirus in the area. Jack kissed Kaori before he ran off to pursue the rampaging pack. The Anguirus pack, now known to be two adults and one offspring, moved deeper into the city, with Jack following. The next morning, Jack ran down an empty street, only for the building behind him to collapse and reveal a skull-faced Anguirus. The monster heard Godzilla's roar in the distance and walked past Jack, but its tail damaged a nearby building, burying him in the rubble. Godzilla made landfall and destroyed another building near Jack with his atomic breath. Kaori and a limping Mitch found Jack unconscious and injured, but still alive. Once he is conscious again, the group argues over Jack's obsessive willingness to continue chasing the monsters. Suddenly, Godzilla reappeared and faced off with the Anguirus pack. The monsters roared challenges at each other.
