Cyber-Godzilla continued his rampage until the Tachyon mind control unit was destroyed. He was unaffected by this due to his implants, but he was then tasked with eliminating the H.E.A.T. team once again. As he prepared to do so, Godzilla chose Tatopoulos over him and fought to defend Earth. He was able to defeat Cyber-Godzilla through use of cunning tactics, and his leaping abilities. Godzilla burrowed underground, and blasted Cyber-Godzilla with his Atomic Ray as he peered into the hole before leaping on him and burning him yet again. Their quarrel continued until Godzilla tackled Cyber-Godzilla into the water and ripped off his chest plates and tore out his internal mechanisms.

Cyber Godzilla (サイバー・ゴジラ,   Saibā Gojira) is a giant cybernetic reptilian monster who first appears in episode 12 of Godzilla: The Series, "Monster Wars: Part 2."

The result of the Leviathan Aliens recovering and cybernetically reviving the carcass of the first Godzilla, Cyber Godzilla was the centerpiece of the aliens' planned invasion of Earth. They first released the cyborg to intercept its son, using its parental influence to bring him under the aliens' control. Cyber Godzilla was then set loose on Tokyo as the aliens' other mind-controlled monsters assaulted other major cities around the globe. Cyber Godzilla was eventually killed after the current Godzilla's surrogate father Niko Tatopoulos freed him from the aliens' mind control and convinced him to fight his biological father.

Name

Cyber Godzilla's name comes from "cyber" ("cybernetic" for short), referring to the monster's status as a cyborg, and "Godzilla." The nickname "Cyber-Zilla" comes from the fact the TriStar Godzilla's design was later trademarked as a new character called "Zilla" by Toho. The Leviathan Aliens simply refer to Cyber Godzilla as "the cyborg." Nick Tatopoulos also alludes to Cyber Godzilla as Godzilla's "Daddy."

Design

Due to being the cybernetically revived parent of the Second Godzilla, Cyber Godzilla is near-identical to his son. Its decayed organic body is a desaturated purple that is lighter on the undersides. He has green eyes and appears to have lost the fifth vestigial digit on his hands. Both of Cyber Godzilla's legs have a cybernetic thigh guard and a brace farther up his feet. Cyber Godzilla's left arm has a cybernetic enhancement that starts as a brace with three spikes at the end of his upper arm and ends as a panel at his wrist. Cyber Godzilla's right arm has been replaced with a skeletal-like cybernetic arm that has three claws. His two largest dorsal fins have each been equipped with four energy missile launchers. Cyber Godzilla's entire mid-section has been replaced with a cybernetic enhancement that has a panel attached to his left shoulder and an openable chest, where a Leviathan Alien inside it controls him. Cyber Godzilla's head features a cybernetic enhancement that wraps around his entire head, leaving his jaw exposed, the top of his head has a frill, and his bottom jaw has four red spikes along with a cable that connects to the cybernetic enhancement in his neck. His tail also has a cybernetic brace around it. The dewlap that hangs on his neck has three large spikes.

Origins

Cyber Godzilla is the original Godzilla that nested in New York City in 1998. Following the creature's death, its carcass was taken to a military base for study. When the Leviathan Aliens overtook the base, they used their technology to modify Godzilla into a cyborg that was completely under their control, using it to turn the second Godzilla against humanity and recruit him to their cause. Cyber Godzilla is completely under the control of the Leviathan Aliens, though he is still able to recognize the second Godzilla as his son.

History

Godzilla: The Series

"Monster Wars: Part 2"

Immediately following his resurrection, Cyber Godzilla was sent to eliminate Nick Tatopoulos and Mendel Craven, who had broken into Sandy Point Military Base to rescue their friends from Leviathan Alien control. The new Godzilla, Cyber Godzilla's only living offspring, arrived to protect Tatopoulos, but became conflicted by having to choose between both parents. In his moment of hesitation, the Leviathan Aliens took control of him and the father and son worked together to try and eliminate the intruders. After being thrown off the humans' trail, the two monsters were sent into the world's major cities to cause destruction. Cyber Godzilla was sent to Tokyo.

"Monster Wars: Part 3"

Cyber Godzilla continued his rampage until he was interrupted by the deactivation of the Leviathan Aliens' mind control beacon. The aliens' control over the monster was not severed, however, as he was still bound to them through his implants. Cyber Godzilla was tasked with eliminating the H.E.A.T. team once again, but this time Godzilla chose Tatopoulos over his father. The two clashed until Godzilla tackled Cyber Godzilla into the water and tore out his internal mechanisms, killing both him and the Leviathan Alien inside his chest that controlled him.

Energy missiles

Cyber Godzilla can fire up to eight energy missiles from the energy missile launchers on his dorsal fins. When fired, they tend to have a blue or a green color.

Cybernetic dish

Cyber Godzilla has a cybernetic dish located in his chest, which can reflect sound-based waves and attacks back to their source. It was used against the Giant Bat to counter its sonic screech.

Physical capabilities

Durability

Cyber Godzilla's physical durability is enhanced compared to his organic form, as he is now resistant to human weaponry and can hold his own in combat with other monsters.

Weaknesses

After Godzilla burrowed into the ground, Cyber Godzilla investigated the hole, only to be knocked onto his back by Godzilla's atomic breath. Once on his back, Godzilla blasted Cyber Godzilla with his atomic breath again. Cyber Godzilla easily had his cybernetic arm shot off by one of the Leviathan Aliens' ships. Video games

Godzilla: The Series - Monster Wars

While Cyber Godzilla's origins and links to a nondescript race of aliens are never addressed in the game, Cyber Godzilla remains the reanimated corpse of the first Godzilla; however, in this adaptation, it is exclusively erroneously referred to as female. It was forced to battle its son and fired several missiles at him, but was ultimately put out of operation, allowing Godzilla to once again rest in peace.

Trivia

  • Cyber Godzilla is a clear reference to Mechagodzilla and Mecha-King Ghidorah, the latter also being a cyborg.
  • The Millennium Mechagodzilla, Kiryu, shares many similarities to Cyber Godzilla as both are previously dead kaiju that are resurrected using robotic technology and made to fight another kaiju of the same species as them. The largest difference between the two is that Cyber Godzilla is a cyborg, with much of its organic body intact, while Kiryu is a bio-mecha with its skeleton, DNA, and nervous system tissue as its only organic components.
  • Cyber Godzilla possesses a blue atomic breath and attacks Tokyo, both clear references to the Japanese Godzilla.
  • While Cyber Godzilla, and by extension his original biological form, are consistently acknowledged as being male in dialogue, the 2000 video game Godzilla: The Series - Monster Wars makes the mistake of calling him "she" several times over. This is a common misconception among people who have only seen the 1998 TriStar film, in which that version of Godzilla laid eggs asexually.
