Pacific Rim is an American science-fiction franchise owned by Legendary Pictures, comprised of films, comics, books, video games, and tie-in merchandise. Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro and distributed in 2013 by Warner Brothers, depicts the conclusion of a twelve-year war between humanity and a succession of kaiju who emerge from an interdimensional portal in the Pacific Ocean. Humanity's ultimate weapons in this fight are Jaegers, giant robots whose pilots act in unison to control them through a brain-sharing process known as Drifting. It began as a spec script written by Travis Beacham. Del Toro returned as a producer for the sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, which was directed by Steven DeKnight and will be distributed by Universal Pictures in March 2018.
