Shinomura
|
Shinomura (シノムラ) is a radioactive parasitic colony kaiju created by Legendary Pictures that first appeared in the 2014 Godzilla graphic novel, Godzilla: Awakening.
Design
Shinomura are massive, winged, dragon-like monsters with blue scales and black wings. They also resemble scorpions and have multiple eyes.
Shinomura's gigantic super-colony cells are black and blue and resemble starfish.
Name
Shinomura was originally assigned the placeholder name "MUTO" by Monarch, but is later named "Shinomura" by Ishiro Serizawa's father. Shinomura's name is derived from the Japanese term "shi no mure," (死の群れ) literally meaning "swarm of death."
Origins
Shinomura first appeared at least 250 million years ago, right before the Permian-Triassic extinction event happened. Shinomura fell underground and laid dormant for millions of years until the atomic bombing of Hiroshima awoke it.
History
Godzilla: Awakening
250 million years ago, a Shinomura landed upon a small island to feast upon the remains of a large, aquatic creature. It failed to notice Godzilla, and was subsequently blasted by his atomic breath. Around that time, a meteorite strike hit the Earth, and it radically changed the amount of radiation on the world. The ground cracked upon, and the Shinomura's body falls underground. It lay dormant for millions of years, until the atomic bombing of Hiroshima awoke it. The creature proceeded to attack ships across the ocean and began to grow in size. But wherever Shinomura went, Godzilla followed and chased it away.
In 1946, a part of Shinomura was discovered in the Philippines. Originally thought to be a severed limb or a scale, it was later revealed to be a cell from the kaiju. Monarch then exposed the cell to radiation, which allowed it to grow and regenerate. The new Shinomura escaped, and began to look for its other half.
Later, when Godzilla came ashore on Moansta Island, both Shinomura appeared, and merge into a larger one. The two kaiju then began to fight. After a long struggle, Godzilla incinerated one Shinomura with his atomic breath, but the other escaped. A trap was then set for both of the creatures at Bikini Atoll, leaving a radiation trail for Shinomura, which would in turn lure Godzilla. A nuclear "test" was staged, trying to kill both Godzilla and Shinomura using a hydrogen bomb. Shinomura was destroyed in the explosion, but Godzilla survived.
Abilities
Flight
The Shinomura is capable of flight.
Cellular Division And Recomposition
The Shinomura is identified as a super-organism which is a being composed of smaller organisms. Due to its structure it can form weapons such as spiked tentacles.
Regeneration
A single cell of the Shinomura can regrow an entire new body as long as there is radiation.
Physical Strength
When large enough, it is strong enough to drag Godzilla around
Growth
As long as it continues to feed on radiation, it will keep on growing until “it blocks out the sky”
Weaknesses
The Shinomura can’t withstand the force of Godzilla’s atomic breath, it was also unable to withstand a dry-fuel hydrogen bomb

Roar
Shinomura's roars are written as generic "Roar"s and "Screech"es in the comic.
Trivia
- Shinomura is very similar to the monsters Hedorah and Destoroyah. All three monsters are composite creatures composed of countless smaller organisms that can split apart and recombine at will. All three monsters are also extremely deadly to organic life on Earth.
- Although Godzilla: Awakening shows that Shinomura was killed by the same hydrogen bomb detonation that targeted Godzilla in the opening credits of Godzilla, it is not present or even mentioned in the film.
