An aerial view of Brazil

Brazil is the largest and most populous country in South America. It hosts most of the Amazon rainforest, the largest rainforest in the world. The country is divided into 27 states, including the Federal District.

The nation had a small feature in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) as the home of the Titan Behemoth before having a greater role in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) as the site of the climactic battle. The country was also prominently featured in several of IDW Publishing’s Godzilla comic series.

History

Godzilla: The Series

"Bug Out"

Deep in Brazil's Amazon rainforest, a group of loggers were attacked by a colony of Giant Mutant Termites. Sometime later, the United Nations called H.E.A.T. to the Amazon to find the reason behind the continued disappearance of large sections of the rainforest. Later, they were attacked by the giant termites and forced to flee back to the camp. After settling on using sound waves to defeat the termites, the mutants razed the camp, forcing H.E.A.T. to flee once again and summon Godzilla. He soon arrived and attacked the termites, but was overwhelmed by a swarm of them. After the attack, Mendel Craven developed a sound-wave emitter that would make the termites to turn on each other. H.E.A.T set up multiple transmitters and entered the termites' mound while the creatures fought each other. The team became trapped in the tunnels, but Godzilla freed them by burrowing a new exit to the surface. The termite's nest was then blown-up by explosives that H.E.A.T. planted while they were inside, ending the menace on the Amazon.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Behemoth in Rio de Janeiro

The Titan Behemoth lived in what would become Brazil as early as 12,000 years ago as indicated by cave paintings found by Monarch.

In the years leading up to King Ghidorah's emergence, strange cloud formations seen over Brazil were deemed possible titan activity by Monarch. In 2019, King Ghidorah disappeared within a hurricane of his own creation over Brazil, before heading to Isla de Mara, Mexico after Rodan's emergence drew his interest. Awakened by King Ghidorah's call, Behemoth awoke in Brazil and attacked Rio de Janeiro before being pacified by the Orca activated by Madison Russell, and later departed for Boston. Sometime later, it was reported Behemoth's trail of destruction had begun to restore clear-cut portions of the Amazon rainforest.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

The Skar King and Shimo in Rio de Janeiro

After gravity restored itself in the Iwi's protective field around multiple Hollow Earth entrances, the Skar King, Kong, Shimo and Godzilla all fell into a portal, which deposited the warring Titans right off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The Skar King and Shimo emerged first, and the tyrannical ape took a moment to admire the sun before commanding Shimo to fire her ice beam skywards, creating a massive cloud above the city. Shimo then turned her wrath to Rio itself, firing into the city until Kong and Godzilla attacked the Skar King and Shimo respectively. The four Titans resumed their battle, until Shimo and Kong locked each other in combat, giving Godzilla the opportunity to sever the crystal the Skar King's Whipslash. Kong and the Skar King savagely fought over the crystal, until it was destroyed by Suko, who had retrieved Kong's axe from the Hollow Earth, thus freeing Shimo from the Skar King's control. Kong, Godzilla and Suko then took their turns beating down the Skar King, before Shimo finally froze the ape over. Kong killed the tyrant as he succumbed to the cold, smashing him against the ground and ending his reign for good. Afterwards, Godzilla fired an atomic beam into the sky to dissipate Shimo's cloud before departing for Rome while Shimo, Kong, and Suko returned to the Hollow Earth.

GODZILLA: Project Mechagodzilla

A subspecies of Kumonga was reported to live in and around Brazil. In addition, Rio de Janeiro was one of the last capitals of the United Earth and the launch site of the Oratio and Aratrum. The city was leveled by Godzilla during the aforementioned spacecraft's launch.

Comics

Godzilla

During an outbreak of kaiju attacks throughout the world, Rodan attacked the Autódromo José Carlos Pace in Brazil while a race was in progress and injured racer Harrison, resulting in his hospitalization. Later on, Harrison joined the Monster Kill Crew, who eventually journeyed to São Paulo and attempted to use a Headache Beam to lure Rodan into a giant electrified Kevlar net they had set up nearby. However, Rodan evaded their trap by flying over it and flew away.

Godzilla: Rulers of Earth

After strange eggs were found in a mine, Monster Islands Research Team members Lucy Casprell, Kristina Sumres, and Jason Ford were sent to São Paulo to investigate the matter. Jason informed his colleagues that the eggs had since been brought into the city from the mine where they were originally found. As Lucy inexplicably suffered a psychic phenomenon initiated by the psychic twins Minette and Mallory, Godzilla and Ebirah suddenly burst out of the harbor, bringing their fight on to dry land as countless Meganulon simultaneously began to hatch from their eggs. The Meganulon began to swarm the surrounding buildings and attacked all people in the vicinity, though the Monster Islands Research team were able to flee the growing chaos. The Meganulon soon swarmed onto Ebirah, who retaliated by slicing through several of them with his claw. While Godzilla and Ebirah were still engaged in combat, Megaguirus entered the battle. Throwing his opponent aside, Godzilla fired his atomic breath at Megaguirus, who swiftly dodged the attack. Godzilla and Megaguirus took their fight further inland while Ebirah fled back into the ocean. Flying between the skyscrapers, Megaguirus absorbed a blast of Godzilla's atomic breath and fired it back as a massive atomic fireball that knocked Godzilla unconscious. She proceeded to grab Godzilla and carried him southeast back to her nest deep in the Amazon rainforest. Within Megaguirus's nest, the Meganulon and Meganula swarmed Godzilla and began piercing his skin before the King of the Monsters incinerated the nest with a nuclear pulse. And enraged Megaguirus grabbed Godzilla once again, piecing him with her stinger and draining his energy. The two eventually left Brazil, taking their fight to Machu Picchu, Peru.

Godzilla in Hell

Godzilla and SpaceGodzilla fought a great battle in Rio de Janeiro which reduced the city to cinders, with the wreckage of MOGUERA visible in the ruins. After knocking SpaceGodzilla to the ground, Godzilla fired his atomic breath straight down at his foe’s face. However, SpaceGodzilla countered with his Corona Beam, forming a beam-lock that resulted in an explosion that not only killed both kaiju, but obliterated the entirety of Earth as well, initiating Godzilla's journey to Hell.
