The Los Angeles-class submarine is a class of nuclear submarine operated by the US Navy. A fictional member of the class, USS Anchorage, appeared in GODZILLA.
History
GODZILLA (1998)
After Godzilla escaped the military's trap in Central Park, he fled into the ocean, where the Navy was ready to attack him. Three nuclear submarines, two Ohio-class submarines and USS Anchorage had been waiting to attack. Anchorage managed to lock onto Godzilla and launched a torpedo at him. Godzilla managed to swim underneath the incoming weapon, barely dodging it. However, the torpedo was still locked on, and the monster led it back towards its source. Godzilla's scutes tore the vessel's hull, and in a few seconds, the torpedo hit the submarine, sinking it. The two Ohio-class subs were left to fight him.

Trivia
- No submarine in the US Navy has ever bore the name Anchorage in real life; rather, the name has been used by two dock landing ships, the first of which, USS Anchorage (LSD-36), was still in commission at the time of GODZILLA's theatrical run.
