As I noted, 滅 letter literally means to vanish. 燼滅 is a made-up word for the technique, but using 滅 and 手 letters are obvious references to Vanishing Fist.

It's not a made-up word, which is what I've been trying to get across. I don't understand insisting on splitting up the two kanji and translating it as "Ember Vanishing" when the definition "completely destroying (esp. by fire); burning to ashes" is right there.

Now, there is the alternate translation of "becoming extinct" or "disappearing" that I hadn't noticed until now, which might be worth mentioning. I'm still a little apprehensive though because the "Vanish" part of the Heisei Trilogy move could just as easily be "Banish" and the whole thing is a coincidence.

hm, I didn't know that there is actually the 燼滅 word. I think majority of Japanese isn't even aware of this (no kidding, this is my first time I've ever heard of this). But what's the difference between perish and vanish? And what's your point for concerning this trivia a lot? 体長 and 全長 as well.

滅亡・滅却・滅裂・・衰滅・破滅・壊滅・摩滅・不滅・死滅, all these words are regarding to vanish.

I'm not an English speaker. I don't actually get the difference between vanish and perish and disappear to be honest...

Les (talkcontribs)

They're subtly different. Perish implies death or destruction, whereas vanish just means 'to stop being visible.'

I always assumed that, if バニシング is in fact meant to be translated as Vanishing, it was referring to Gamera's hand detaching and/or disappearing into fire. Though, I happen to think "Banishing" makes more sense for the name of a finishing move.

Ah I see, thanks a lot for explanation! I need to study more about etymology and differences in meaning of each terms...

I just searched "燼滅" on Google, and seemingly the term is used mostly by several recent video games. I was totally unfamiliar with this term, so I need to apologize that I initially translated it wrongly...

Well, how about "hiding" the trivia for now? From what I saw, seemingly I'm not the only Japanese who think the letters of Jinmetsushu is a reference to Vanishing Fist. Indeed, Pixivpedia actually mentions about it although it's also possible that the person who edited the Pixivpedia saw Wikizilla, so could be my fault?
