Cloverfield is an American science-fiction horror anthology Franchise Created by J.J. Abrams and Produced by Bad Robot Productions and Distributed by Paramount Pictures. The franchise is known for its intricate Alternate Reality Game (ARG) featured prior to the release of all entries involving a Mysterious Japanese Deep Sea Drilling Company Tagruato and its Subsidiaries as well as other groups of interest including T.I.D.O wave and various characters whom are featured throughout which directly lead up to the events that unfold in each respective film Starting with the 2008 found footage Giant monster film of the same name the film was inspired by the Godzilla franchise With series creator J.J Abrams expressing his desire to make an american giant monster icon on the same level as Godzilla However the franchise would later shift into an Anthology approach eight years after the release of the first entry with the release of the loosely connected second entry 10 Cloverfield Lane released in 2016 and the following third entry The Cloverfield Paradox in 2018 however the currently upcoming fourth entry in the franchise will serve as a direct sequel to the first entry in the series
