It was based on the experience of using British made 8-inch howitzers during the First World War. An American-made weapon, the M110A2 would give general support troops in the field. It was used to counter enemy guns and suppress air defenses. The Howitzer would see service in the Vietnam War as well as the Persian Gulf War. Both the United States and the British armies had the weapon in their arsenal. However, after the Persian Gulf, the weapon was retired from service. Advances in technology made 155mm howitzers more effective in combat than the older M110A2 |
