Takao (高雄) was the lead vessel of the Takao-class heavy cruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy, built during the early 1930s and saw active combat in World War II. Takao survived the war, but was sunk as a target ship off Singapore in 1946. In the 2023 film Godzilla Minus One, Takao was not scuttled and was given back to Japan, authorised by the United States, in an attempt to protect itself from Godzilla.
