You might first read this title and think, “Bullcrap, of course Kong can’t be an antagonist in the film.” But please hear me out, because it might make sense.

So of course, the aftermath of King of the Monsters is that Godzilla becomes king of the monsters, and sets the titans to repairing the planet. Now there’s activity from Skull Island caused by Kong.

This might mean that Kong is an anarchist of sorts, trying to overthrow Godzilla. Kong is essentially putting the common good aside for his own gain, even though Godzilla is using his authority for good. This might be the reason they fight in the first place, because Kong desires Godzilla’s power and stirs crap with him to try and get it.

Now I hope this makes sense, at least a little. Because I’m kind of worried it doesn’t make sense at all. Please comment and tell me how you view this concept or tell of your own perception on how the two will fight.

I think it's more a case of him being ticked off that Skull Island is about to be flooded with a whole group of new Titans. At least, that's what I think is going to spark the conflict.

That could be the case too

I think it's more a case that Godzilla calls the Titans to him, to assert his dominance, like at the end of KotM. However, Kong cannot/will not leave Skull island, for one of many possible reasons - Potential breakout of Skull Crawlers, other creatures from within the Earths crust, perhaps. Godzilla decides to go to Skull Island, and Kong doesn't like/want him showing up.

Perhaps the conflict between the two allows another giant Skull Crawler to emerge, bigger than the prior one, and The Terrorist group arrives with their genetically created creature using the King Ghidorah head. And the once fighting Kong an Godzilla now work together to defeat their foes.
That makes it kind of like a 'Freddy vs Jason' situation where both are hero and villain, except with them becoming allies against other impending doom.
