Operation: Lucky Dragon

"Gentlemen, our operation in the Pacific has concluded, and by our measure, was a success. As you are well aware, over the past months, we've lost several vessels in the Pacific region. After confirming the Russians were not behind these attacks, we began tracking the entity responsible; a previously unknown species photographed here. Sightings of this creature have been on the rise ever since our nuclear fleet discovered its existence in the extreme ocean depths. Unfortunately, our efforts to locate it proved unsuccessful. This is why under the advisement of the joint chiefs, a multinational coalition was assembled to track down and study the organism. Dubbed Monarch Unit, this team of specialists scoured the Pacific region, establishing contact with the native islanders and gathering intelligence on a creature of mythical proportion; a legend known as Gojira. The Monarch team surmised that the atomic signature of our nuclear submarines stirred this Gojira from slumber. Utilizing this tactical information, we were able to set a trap for the creature, luring it with our nuclear weaponry. Six days ago, the target was spotted on an intercept course for the Bikini Atoll, part of our Pacific proving grounds, and the site of a top-secret operation codenamed: Lucky Dragon. Detonation protocol was quickly amended to a new zero-hour. A string of antennas relayed televised signals, giving command a second-by-second account of what was happening at ground zero. On March 1st, 1954, at exactly 8:50, Operation Lucky Dragon commenced. The atomic device was deployed at drop point alpha-three-four-one and the creature swam right into our trap. We've had no further sightings of the target following detonation. As the re-entry team was unable to confirm eradication, the fleet will continue to monitor the perimeter for any sign of activity. In the meantime, it is our determination that the public be kept unaware of the creature's existence. We are working to ensure that this strike is officially acknowledged as “atomic testing”. I would add that the Monarch program has been invaluable in locating and tracking this organism and that it is in our national interest to continue funding for the initiative. We will keep you informed as the situation develops."

MONARCH: The M.U.T.O. File

"Welcome to the Monarch division. Since its inception, our organization has continued its mission to locate, study, and preserve the unexplained orders of nature hidden in the remote corners of our world. In all that time, no mystery has so guided our purpose as the M.U.T.O.: Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism. Creatures awoken from eons of dormancy by man's entrance into the atomic age. We first became aware of their existence in the late 1940s, after a series of unexplained attacks on the military vessels in the Pacific. Our original studies, conducted as part of a joint-military operation concluded with determination of an ancient alpha predator codenamed: Godzilla. For additional data, you may consult file 11MD-4554.

Now, in the wake of the Janjira incident, a rare opportunity to study this ancient species has presented itself. Last year, the fossil remains of a Godzilla species were discovered beneath a mining camp in the Philippines. Contained within the remains were two radioactive spores, their kind unlike anything we'd encountered before. We believe them to have been a parasite species to the larger Godzilla species. The collapse of the valley floor released a pocket of radiation, and the resulting contact with the atmosphere catalyzed the embryo, resulting in a larva. The second specimen was determined to be dormant. Post-hatch activity pointed toward a precautional organism, typical among parasites seeking to flee the host. The diameter and length of the burrowing indicated the initial strength and size of the specimen were considerable. The M.U.T.O., still in larva form, traveled to Japan, where it burrowed beneath the Janjira nuclear facility, collapsing the structure foundation, and causing a reactor breach. In the short time since, the M.U.T.O. hatchling has already formed a cocoon-like structure about itself and the breached reactor. Thus far, this has resulted in near-perfect containment of the meltdown. Please review Dr. Serizawa's research on how the M.U.T.O. is absorbing radiation to familiarize yourself with our current data. Dr. Serizawa has proposed the larva is now entering a pupa phase. Our research therefore must be conducted swiftly and professionally, as this creature continues to develop at an evolving rate of growth. Unfortunately, after many tests, our team has concluded that the dormant spore is nonviable. Because the spore remains highly radioactive, Monarch has recommended the specimen be handed over to the Americans for waste containment. As for the active specimen, its leeching of radioactivity continues at a rate reciprocal to its growth, preventing a catastrophic radiation exposure to the greater population. As a precaution, construction of a safety grid has been approved. It is of vital importance to this project that the public be kept unaware of the cause of the missing radiation. To both ensure their safety and make certain our agency proceeds without external interference, a quarantine zone will be established, thereby sustaining long-term belief in the danger. Your cooperation in this effort is vital. All travel to and from the site must be approved beforehand with management. With these efforts in place, Monarch now has an opportunity to study the development of the M.U.T.O.—and learn more about its role in nature. Please report to Dr. Graham in the crow's nest after this debriefing to receive your assignment. We look forward to working with you, our new member of the Monarch team."

The Godzilla Revelation

"One week ago, they attacked. Creatures we never knew existed. That our military couldn't stop. First in Hawaii……then Las Vegas……and San Francisco, where it finally ended. But this event may only be the beginning.

The incredible devastation witnessed days ago began on the other side of the world, in Japan. Much like they had with the 1999 incident, Monarch attempted to cover up the truth, following the disaster, by releasing reports of an earthquake striking the region. By this point however, things had spiraled beyond their control. The creatures made landfall in Honolulu and the world was aware. As the death toll continued to rise, we learned just how helpless we really were against them. After conventional warfare proved ineffective in stopping the attacks, the White House authorized the use of a nuclear weapon. This weapon detonated some 20 miles off the California coast. By then, one of the creatures, labeled “The King of the Monsters” by some, had defeated the other two. The following day, the survivor swam away from San Francisco, leaving behind many questions. The term M.U.T.O. was made public following the attack in Honolulu. It stands for Massive. Unidentified. Terrestrial. Organism.. The term isn't a new one. We now know that M.U.T.O.s had been on the military's radar since the 1950s. As shown in the Operation: Lucky Dragon film, they were also aware of a larger creature; identified as Gojira in the classified film. What we long thought was atomic testing was actually an attempt to destroy this creature. What was this Gojira creature's relationship to the M.U.T.O.s? Was what we witnessed in San Francisco just part of some ancient hunter-prey cycle we were never aware of?

For years, those of us asking questions have suspected there was more to the 1999 Janjira incident than we were lead to believe. Initial reports labeled it “the worst nuclear meltdown since Chernobyl”, yet now we know there wasn't any radiation leak at all. There couldn't be. Because the M.U.T.O. living inside the Janjira plant was feeding off of the reactor for 15 years. Up until last week, when it finally escaped. The classified military film reveals that Monarch was involved in Operation: lucky Dragon. But what is Monarch? Who's in charge of it? Who funds it? Right now, there is at least one possibility that we know of. Ishiro Serizawa is a paleontologist in the employ of Monarch. He put forth a theory about how prehistoric species naturally evolved to burrow deep into the Earth's core, enabling them to survive an extinction event. A few days ago, I received a tip from a source of mine that a former site manager for Universal Western Mining was claiming to have met with Serizawa and an unnamed colleague in 1999, following the collapse of a UWM mine in the Philippines. He sent me some photos of this massive sinkhole that opened up beneath the site, revealing an uncharted cavern and exposing miners to a pocket of radiation within. Inside this cavern, they found what appeared to be the bones of a massive dinosaur. After notifying the Philippine authorities, this site manager said he was referred to a team of nuclear containment experts. In less than 24 hours, a helicopter arrived, carrying two scientists in the employ of an organization none other than Monarch. One of them was Ishiro Serizawa. What they found in that cave, we can see in the M.U.T.O. files. So if the M.U.T.O.s were just living in a mine somewhere, waiting to be found, who's to say there aren't more of them out there? Who's to say Monarch isn't hiding them in another one of their sites this very instant?

If you listen to the recording right here…… Godzilla. The creature referred to as Gojira in the elite military film. The one the media has labeled “The King of the Monsters.”

The revelations of Operation: Lucky Dragon and the M.U.T.O. files open the door on the conspiracy surrounding these events. But there are still many questions left unanswered. Like where these creatures originate. And why they suddenly emerge into our world. Evidence from the Operation: Lucky Dragon film suggest that Godzilla and the M.U.T.O.s were a reaction to our advances in nuclear technology. But what is the exact nature of this relationship with radiation? Is it a source of food for them? Do they need it to survive? And could it be responsible for the extraordinary size of these creatures? Using photographs and media collected from the incidents, we can get a general understanding of their size and anatomy. Estimates put Godzilla at around 350 feet. As for the M.U.T.O.s: the larger stood somewhere between 250-300 feet, and the one with wings was probably around 200 feet. On several occasions, the M.U.T.O.s displayed the ability to manifest an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP. The devastating result of this attack effectively crippled our communication and many modes of transportation. This effect was discovered by the military during their high-altitude nuclear tests of the 1960s. In fact, for a brief period of time, a KC-135 aircraft, photographing the nuclear blast, briefly lost power, but was able to land. Given this information, the military should’ve expected a similar effect from creatures who feed off radiation. What was the rationale behind flying a nuke into a metropolitan area? As footage captured by our eye-witnesses shows, the attempt to lure M.U.T.O.s outside the city failed. In the end, the only thing capable of stopping their destruction was the destroyer himself; the creature we now know as Godzilla.

Was that the only reason he emerged from the deep? Was he there, as somehow suggested, to restore balance? And if so, what can be done to maintain that balance? Some warrant that nuclear proliferation has increased the likelihood that we will see these creatures again. But the fact is, no one knows for sure. Though the door has been opened, the mystery of Godzilla is still out there, waiting to be solved. We owe it to all who lost their lives in this tragedy to learn the truth. To understand why this attack happened. And what, if anything, can be done to prevent another.

If we do nothing……if we don't learn from our mistakes……it's only a matter of time……before something happens……before we see him again…"
