Physical Statistics

Official sources consistently state that the 1954 incarnation of Godzilla stands 50 meters tall and weighs 20,000 metric tons. This makes him equal in stature to France's Arc de Triomphe and makes him approximately 115.6 times more massive than the heaviest blue whale on record. This incarnation of the character currently has no other known official statistics.

Physical Appearance

Origins

The 1954 incarnation of Godzilla was hypothesized by Japanese paleontologist Dr. Kyohei Yamane to be a member of a previously undiscovered species of relict semiaquatic reptiles. Yamane also suggested that these reptiles were contemporaries of the dinosaurs sometime during either the Jurassic Period or the Cretaceous period and that these creatures were a sort of "intermediary animals". That is to say, Godzilla and his species are, from an evolutionary standpoint, transitional between their fully land-inhabiting and fully sea-dwelling relatives. While non-avian dinosaurs became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous, Godzilla's kind survived for millions of years afterwards by finding shelter in underwater caverns and trenches and feeding on the resident deep sea organisms living there.

While the first Godzilla's motivations for attacking humanity are never made explicitly clear in the original film itself, artwork from a guidebook suggests that Godzilla might have been living peacefully among others of his kind right before his habitat and family were obliterated in a hydrogen bomb test. Exposure to the aforementioned nuclear test and its fallout resulted in Godzilla being irradiated and horribly burned. Enraged and in agonizing pain, Godzilla was drawn to the surface and began to inflict his wrath upon humanity. The series of events depicted in these illustrations is fairly consistent with what's implied to have happened in the film, but it has yet to be definitively confirmed as canon by Toho themselves.

Film Appearances

To date, the 1954 incarnation of Godzilla has appeared in a total of ten films (eleven if one views Godzilla 1985 as a separate film from The Return of Godzilla) over the course of fifty years from 1954 to 2004: Godzilla, Godzilla Raids Again, Varan, The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., and Godzilla: Final Wars.

He appeared as stock footage in Godzilla Raids Again, Godzilla 1985, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S., and Godzilla: Final Wars, as erroneous stock footage in Varan, in photographs in The Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, and he was mentioned in Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.

His first appearance was in Godzilla and his most recent appearance was in Godzilla: Final Wars.

Video Game Appearances

The 1954 incarnation of Godzilla appears as an unlockable playable character in the Nintendo Wii version of 2007's Godzilla: Unleashed. He can be unlocked once one has all of the other monsters, with the exception of Godzilla 1990s, available at the shop. He is tied with SpaceGodzilla as the most expensive character to purchase, as both cost 100,000 points. For whatever reason, Godzilla 1954 is not playable in the game's Story Mode and can only be used in Brawl Mode. Aside from sporting a different head, skin color, atomic breath color, and roar, Godzilla 1954 is depicted as being identical in every way in Godzilla 1990s, even sharing the same moveset with the latter. His character bio is as follows:

The original king of the monsters, this towering behemoth was the first post-war radioactive monster unleashed upon the world. Godzilla '54's atomic-powered body was so powerful that each footprint he left was a crater seeping with lethal radiation. The infamous day that Godzilla rose from the sea to conquer Tokyo will be remembered as the beginning of the humanity's epic struggle against the reign of giant monsters."
