During the attack, a gigantic lizard swam up from the depths to prey on the vulnerable humans and Kong. When Ewata directed a Kong named Fer'rah to attack its eyes, while a party of humans went to the shore where they were attacked by more reptiles. Ewata then ordered Fer-rah to kill the last of the aquatic lizard attackers, while the rest of the Kong turned the ship back upright. They were forced to leave Fer-rah and any other survivors behind. Back on the Tagu Island, K'reti appealed to the king about his having already promised Ewata to him, and not the Atu prince, to which the king responded that leaders often had to make sacrifices, at which point K'reti revealed that he had already married Ewata months ago, but the King brushed it off by telling him to have it severed and to keep Ewata as his mistress. At sea, Ewata revealed to her female Kong Valla that she was two months pregnant. On the Tagu Island, an Atu ship was preparing to leave with supplies, which greatly distressed the Tagu, who wished to flee with them. In an attempt to quell the masses, the Tagu Storyteller began to recount how the Kong came to be: through the cooperation of the Tagu and Atu. The Tagu pioneered selective breeding, while the Atu developed growth stimulants for them. The Storyteller then encouraged them to cooperate again for their collective well being. Shortly after that, Ewata's ship returned, but as she was hauled away with the wounded she saw that K'reti had married the Atu princess and formed the Taguatu people. Back on Skull Island, Fer'rah had survived his encounter with the reptile and washed ashore with it. When he moved to reach for some berries, the carrion fowl that wee eating the reptile's remains came for him.
The boat carrying the Tagu Kong was tipped by monsters, including a gigantic marine reptile, and the Pteranodons, sending all of the passengers into the water. The large predator attacked, but Fer'rah fought back. Some of the passengers make it to shore, where they think they are safe from the monsters in the water, only to be attacked by monsters they would later call Deathrunners. A Kong called Tul comes to fight them off while Fer'rah finishes off the marine reptile and Valla and a Kong called Konga flip the boat back upright, all on Ewata's orders. Ewata then assigns a Kong called B'lal to retrieve as many survivors as it can, and they are forced to leave anyone still in the water behind for their own survival, leaving Fer'rah struggling with the reptile. On the island, K'reti voices concerns to his father concerning his existing betrothal to Ewata, which his father brushes off as a sacrifice for the good of the people, though he does assure K'reti that as king he will be able to keep Ewata as his mistress, despite their already having been married in secret. On the boat home from Skull Island, Ewata reveals to Valla that she was two months pregnant. K'reti then speaks to Usana in private to inquire as to whether or not she thinks that marrying him will do anything for the people, to which she responds that all systems of belief are lies told to the people to make them think their lives are under control. At the docks, tensions between the Tagu and the Atu peoples are on the rise again regarding the distribution of passengers and resources on the ships that are poised to take them away from their island, but it is quelled by Sani, who reminds them that their ancestors worked together to breed the Kong. Ewata's ship then returns from sea, and as she carts wounded into the city she bears witness to her husband K'reti's marriage festival. It does not last long before the Great Mouth erupts and causes mass panic, as the winds had not changed since the first ship had set sail, so the ships would drift back to Skull Island. On the shores of Skull Island, the heavily wounded Fer'rah reaches for some berries while Deathrunners feast on the carcass of the marine reptile. Sensing his presence, they turn to attack him.

Kong of Skull Island #2 is a comic book by BOOM! Studios. It was released in August 2016.

Plot
