We recently received a message on Twitter alleging that a large number of screenshots from Godzilla (2014) currently on the site are from a fan edit of the film that should not have been shared publicly. I looked through the recent edit history and see that most of the screenshots from the film were added recently by you. Can you attest as to where you took these screenshots? Did you possibly brighten the film yourself or is the person from Twitter correct and you took them from a fan edit?

Hello! Sorry for the late response. They were from HDD Production's Beta Cut, but I've gotten his permission to upload the screenshots on the site beforehand. Otherwise, I would not have uploaded them in the first place.

The user on Twitter has shown us screenshots of her correspondence with HDD Productions, and he indicated that he did not give you permission and said he found it to be disingenuous and was upset you uploaded them anyway. He presumably asked his friend to ask us to take them off of the site.

Huh. He didn't seem much bothered by it other than feeling it to be dishonest to use them as a presentation of the movie. I have been waiting for him to send me some compiled shots of the theatrical version, so I can replace those scenes with those, but considering how long that is currently taking, I may as well ask another friend on Discord to just send me his entire folder of GareGoji pictures, so I can use those instead.

I do find it strange that not he didn't just tell me to take them down beforehand since I am in his Discord server. If he wanted me to, he could have just told me, and I would have done as he said.

I've looked into it further and it seemed like the user was not actually asked to remove the screenshots, but only suspected that they were uploaded without permission. So long as it appears you did receive permission, and I don't have any reason to not believe what you've said so far, the images can be restored. My apologies for giving you a hard time about this, I just had to make sure.

It's fine. Again, replacing them with in-film screencaps was considered once they were provided, and I am currently in the process of doing so since Jaiden provided me an entire folder of his GareGoji in-film screencaps.

so are the HDD Production images allowed to be used or not?

i feel the replacement images are a bit way too dark.

They are, though he found it dishonest to use it as a presentation of the movie, as from his understanding, the purpose of the page is to show GareGoji’s presentation in the movie, not an edited version of such. Also, several of them have inconsistent crop sizes, so replacing that with something more consistent was important.

I was planning on brightening them up while I was uploading the respective screencaps, but I wasn't at the exact mood to do it at the moment

Last time i checked the site normally does allow brightened screencaps.

I know, but by "edited", he meant from his cut of the movie.
