Did New World and Sony both consider releasing Godzilla vs. Megalon's uncut dubbed version?

I just had another one of those fact over fiction questions I've been wondering about and it's in regards to Godzilla vs. Megalon's uncut international version. I think David Kalat mentioned in his book A Critical History and Filmography of Toho's Godzilla Series. That New World Video considered releasing the uncut version of Megalon along with Gigan and Mechagodzilla, but dropped out due to there being a problem with money regarding it's release in competing with the fly-by-night distributors releasing the heavily edited Cinema Shares version. I don't see why there would have been a concern like that, because I would've thought that most consumers would've been willing to pay extra just to see the unedited version of the film or could they just not afford it from Toho back then?

Also, I heard somewhere that Sony considered releasing it on DVD in their lineup for Godzilla's 50th anniversary, but they dropped out of it as well. Was there a similar issue like with New World Video? Also, for some reason even though Sony never released it there had been people that acted like they did. So, I don't know if that was just a rumor, I even recall someone once stating that, "the only way you could get it on DVD was in a two pack with Godzilla vs. Gigan". But that couldn't have been true because otherwise it would've surfaced somewhere and this was all before it was finally released by Media Blasters in 2012.
