King Kong: 360 3-D is an attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood on the Studio Tour which opened on July 1, 2010, and replaced King Kong Encounter after it burned down in 2008. The ride is a two-minute recreation of the 2005 film and was shown on two 200-foot screens. It was later adapted and expanded into Skull Island: Reign of Kong for Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure in 2016.
Summary
To access the attraction, the Studio Tour Tram travels up a slope towards the soundstage, with an exterior themed around some of the ruins on Skull Island. After a video introduction by Peter Jackson, the trams enter the soundstage and arrive in the jungles of Skull Island where a Venatosaurus pack is on the hunt. The Venatosaurs chase the tour trams along the side of the cliff until running into a trio of Vastatosaurus rexes. After snatching some of the Venatosaurs, the Vastatosaurs turn their attention to the tour trams, only for King Kong to come to the rescue. As the battling creatures jump over and slam into the tour vehicles, a sliding V-rex ends up pulling part of the tour tram into the screen and into the vines of the canyon. Swinging between a V-rex and a Arachno-claw, Kong rescues the on-screen tram car from the V-rex on top of it and sets it down gently before helping the rest of the train. Kong lets out a victory roar and leaps away, ending the film.
Prior to King Kong: 360 3D's construction, the Studio Tour featured representation of the 2005 film in the form of a bigature of the Skull Island Wall and the Venture being staged along the famous "Parting of the Red Seas" area of the route. This display was up from April 2006 to 2016.
