Operation Yashiori, tentatively titled the Yaguchi Plan, was a successful plan developed to stop Godzilla before the United States launched a nuclear strike to kill him in Shin Godzilla. The operation was named after the sake used to slay Yamata no Orochi in Japanese mythology.
History
Following Godzilla's initial landing in Tokyo, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Rando Yaguchi assembles a team composed of low-level bureaucrats and government outcasts to come up with a plan to counter the monster if he reappears. During their investigations, they come to the conclusion that the reason Godzilla retreated to the ocean was that, as an sea creature who rapidly adapted to withstand nuclear waste, the nuclear fission process his body undergoes produces a large amount of heat, this requiring water to prevent him from overheating. This conclusion gives way to another that he also possessed a blood cooling system, making it theoretically possible to force him to perform a reactor scram to survive by injecting a blood coagulant and freezing him. With this information in mind, Yaguchi orders the team to begin preparing for an operation to freeze the monster.
After the failure of Operation Taba and Godzilla going into a state of hibernation after unleashing a devastating attack on Tokyo, work resumes on the Yaguchi Plan, but the team is unable to synthesize an effective coagulant nor interpret the molecular diagrams of the monster found within the notes of Goro Maki. Yaguchi additionally learns from Kayoco Anne Patterson that, following the discovery of one of Godzilla's broken dorsal fins regenerating and in response to resulting fears of Godzilla propagating worldwide and attacking the West Coast of the United States, the country's government plans to launch a nuclear strike to kill the monster, with Japan being given two weeks to evacuate Tokyo beforehand. This plan is later approved by the United Nations with other countries planning to help Japan rebuild the city afterwards. Thankfully, a breakthrough in the Yaguchi Plan revealed that Godzilla's cells were able to metabolize radiation in the presence of oxygen and water, this leading to the conclusion that by inhibiting the activity of his cellular membranes, the coagulant would be able to take effect. In response, the plan is fast-tracked and is redubbed Operation Yashiori.
