Here’s a personal ranking of the Kaiju as villains based on there depiction and how their films handled them, along with their roles in the films:
4. MUTO couple- The MUTOs are great Kaiju, but I felt that at the same time, they came off as creatures fighting for survival in a changed world, so you can’t really see them as full on villains. Plus, I felt sad at the point when the Female MUTO was trying desperately to call to her babies after they were killed.
3. Skull Crawlers- While they are technically creatures with a similar role to the MUTOs, the Skullcrawlers were much less sympathetic than the MUTOs, depicted as being savage and sinister. Thus, they seem more villainous.
2. King Ghidorah- King Ghidorah gets this position as a very close second. Unlike the MUTOs and Skullcrawlers, he is not merely a creature, but an invasive organism from space, who has a villain-like goal: taking control of the Earth and manipulating it to his liking.
1. Mechagodzilla- This was tough, but in the end, I felt Mecha-G should get the top ranking. Through the purpose of a machine to kill Godzilla, along with the reason for his construction, Mechagodzilla captures the prevalent conflict in the MonsterVerse of man trying to overcome the Titans instead of coexisting with them.
Of course, this is just my opinion. If you like, you can share your opinions on this, or your own rankings, in the comments.
