The Angry Video Game Nerd (formerly, Angry Nintendo Nerd), is a series of retro-gaming video reviews created by and starring Rolfe as the titular character.

The series began as a small joke project featuring pre-recorded commentary over gameplay footage of Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. Rolfe's commentary was notoriously in-depth and vitriol towards the nearly 20-year old game. A second video, based on the game Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde featured the first on-screen appearance of Rolfe in costume as the Nerd character. The two videos were shared among his close friends who prompted Rolfe to not only make more but to showcase the series on his website. The series began as a feature on YouTube, and later joined ScrewAttack Entertainment, which would later have three of its features, including Nerd, transferred to GameTrailers exclusively. Originally, the show was entitled The Angry Nintendo Nerd but was changed to its current title both to avoid any potential conflicts with Nintendo and due to the character branching out to other consoles.
