Actually, I took it upon myself to review each of Toho's films up to the premiere of Rodan, and indeed it was Toho's first color film.

I'm not sure if this was their first color film either, but Madame White Snake (also called The Legend of the White Serpent) was released in July of '56 (vs. December for Rodan).
