Daimon (ダイモン,   Daimon) is a demonic Babylonian yokai who appears in the 1968 Daiei film Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare.

Development

Director Yoshiyuki Kuroda decided to cast Chikara Hashimoto as Daimon because he liked his use of eye movements as Daimajin, as well as other aspects of his performance in the Daimajin trilogy.[3][4]

Design

Daimon is a creature from ancient Babylonia with brown feathers, a raised skeleton, legs, and limbs, and resembles a bird of prey. He also wears a dark brown belt around his waist decorated with human skull motifs.

Origins

Daimon was entombed for four thousand years after destroying the city of Ur in Babylonia, until two treasure hunters unintentionally awoke him.

History

Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare

The demonic Daimon was awoken in Babylonia when his tomb was disturbed by treasure hunters. After killing them, he took to the sky and flew towards Japan. After capsizing a ship, he fought a samurai leader. However, the samurai lost and Daimon possessed his body. After drinking the blood of many humans, Daimon decided to drink the blood of children. It was at this point that Aogappa attempted to lay claim as the 'local yokai' and fought the demon, retreating when Daimon vigorously rubbed its head dish against a wooden post. The Kappa returned later with a few of its yokai friends, but Daimon once again proved to be too powerful in the dark arts. One of the yokai whistled and summoned all the local yokai to battle. It was then found out that its weakness was its eyes and it was stabbed in the left eye, thus ending the demon's life.

Abilities

Size changing

Daimon can grow up to 10 times his average height at will,[2] allowing him to take on the combined forces of the Yokai Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Flight

Daimon is equipped with a set of wings that allow it to take flight. He used this ability in order to fly from his tomb in Babylonia to Japan.

Weaknesses

Daimon's only clear weakness is his eyes. While dueling with the disguised Daimon, Shinpachiro shot out his right eye with an arrow, causing it to bleed and close over. Later, when Japan's yokai gathered to confront Daimon, Aburasumashi stabbed his left eye with his cane, but it did little more than irritate the Babylonian demon. This eye proved to be his undoing in his giant form, however, as Dorotabo and Ikkaku Daio managed to stab it out for good, causing him to revert to his normal size and stumble into a nearby lake.
