Naoko is a student at university, but is also an intern to [[Doctor Hayashida|Dr. Hayashida]]. Her brother Hiroshi's career as a fisherman is what pays for her education. She first appears bringing tea to [[Goro Maki]] and Dr. Hayashida. It is revealed by Hayashida that she does not know that her brother is alive, but she finds out he is when she overhears Maki soliloquizing about it. Maki then takes her to see him in hospital. She makes minor appearances throughout the film until she, Maki, and Hayashida are trapped on the top floor of the building Hayashida's lab is in. A helicopter comes to rescue them, but they can only take Hiroshi and  Hayashida. She and [[Goro Maki|Maki]] are left to wait for another chopper. They escape the building, but instead of waiting, they go to watch Godzilla be trapped in [[Mount Mihara]].
