While I kinda get trimming back Island and Godziban with the expectation of giving those individualized character pages, why did all the IDW stuff get hidden? Showa Mechagodzilla's page covers all the material using that incarnation of the character, including Island and Godzilland.

Having the same design doesn't make it the same incarnation; there should be pages for all the comic versions of Mechagodzilla in the future just like Godzilla. I didn't realize we had all that on the Showa page, so I'll remove that.
The way spinoff material has treated the pre-2004 Mechagodzilla models over the years to the point of having them co-exist, I just figured we were treating Showa, Super, and Kiryu as three separate monsters with a shared name. If we're expanding the "Let's give every major and minor print version of Godzilla an incarnation page" project to other monsters, are we pivoting monster coverage in general to some kinda DC/Marvel Wiki "Here's a disambiguation directory for individual pages of every main/micro continuity version of the character" model?
It will be the exact same as it is now - only major monsters have incarnation pages and the rest stay on one page - just with comics added.
If we're being this rigid about alternate continuities using the different Mechagodzilla incarnations, wouldn't the video game coverage have to go too?
Yes in my opinion, but I didn't feel like going through them :P. If a game uses phrasing like "Mechagodzilla (1974)", like Godzilla Defense Force for example, that's good enough for me. But if it's just a Mechagodzilla that happens to use one design or the other, I don't think that counts.
Also, just to add, I'm not opposed to making separate pages for some video game iterations, it's just that a lot of games are not really story-based. We already have a page for Super Godzilla though, which I think should be converted into an incarnation page for the Godzilla from that game.
I think my overall concern is that until there's more of an ongoing splitting project in place, the omissions might just create confusion for people browsing the pages. The "Other uses of these designs" section within the "Merge Godzilla designs with their incarnations" proposal would definitely be useful.
Yeah, we're hoping to move forward with deleting the suit pages soon, definitely sometime in spring.
