”Cause of Death” has been on my mind as of late. It mostly amounts to a detail that just adds an interesting fact. Self-explanatory use.

I think the infoboxes are crammed full of enough alternate-universe information already.
I don’t follow…
The infoboxes for most major Toho monsters are getting incredibly long, mostly due to the fields for place(s) of emergence, allies, and enemies. Aesthetically it's pretty unappealing, and the point of infoboxes is to deliver information in extreme brief. Les and I have talked ways to condense them, though there are plenty of other projects to be tackled first; in any case, I certainly don't want to make them any longer.
I see. I was thinking that this parameter be used for characters as well as individual kaiju. Specific incarnations of recurring Kaiju. One-appearance Kaiju such as perhaps the Skull Island Meat Eater or MUTO Prime. That way, we wouldn’t be stuck with pages with further enlarged infoboxes.
On a side note, for repetitive inputs such as “natural causes” or “old age”, we wouldn’t really have to worry about significant growth in the infobox. And perhaps, we can just specify a liable killer if summarizing the cause of death is too much.
If we're not even going to be using the field for most of the most popular character pages, why bother?
………..💧
perhaps for the problematic pages, we just list the cause of death for a kaiju's debut appearance/incarnation…..?
Potential examples:
SpaceGodzilla (“Obliterated by Godzilla's uranium heat ray”)
Destoroyah (“Shattered by conflicting extreme temperatures”)
Gorosaurus (“Jaws fatally snapped by King Kong”)
Baragon (“Neck snapped by Frankenstein”)
Varan (“Blown up from the inside”)
Hedorah (“Complete dehydration”)
Gigan ("Killed by Zone Fighter”)
Kumonga ("Killed with atomic breath”)
Kamacuras ("Killed by Kumonga's venom”)
Orga (“Obliterated from inside by Godzilla”)
Megaguirus (“Set ablaze by Godzilla”)
Monster X (“Obliterated by Godzilla's Burning Spark Heat Ray”)
Ebirah (“killed with atomic breath by Godzilla”)
Servum (“immense artillery fire”)
Battra (“Fatally bit in the thorax by Godzilla”)
Godzilla Junior (“finished off by micro-oxygen beam”)
Meganulan (“consumed by Rodan hatchling”)
………………..😥
That's pretty arbitrary - some of these characters have multiple film incarnations who died - and confusing to readers if other fields remain as expansive as they currently are. I'm sorry, but you aren't making any kind of case for adding this field.
I really wanna make this work and at the same time, I don’t want to cause any trouble or distress. It’s occured to me that the things I do just come off as a pain in the ass. I have sincere intentions and I’m invested in what I’m proposing. I don’t know what else to say. I’m feeling half obligated to give up on this particular ordeal.
Suggestions are always welcome, but it feels like you came up with this one on a whim and want it implemented just because.
I've never believed you edit insincerely, but you seem to have a real difficulty internalizing the ample feedback you've been given, which makes your edits time-consuming to sift through.
I just looked at my test zone. I have already tested out "Cause of Death” (And "Killer" apparently.) as a parameter(s) in an infobox. Done right, it looks good and doesn’t take up much space. Very brief too if worded right.
i feel like a more feasible and less cluttery one would be a status parameter. like if the kaiju or character is alive, dead, or unknown. the likelihood of even this one being added is also low though I will admit, but it could be a compromise
That would definitely cut down on verbiage, though you'd have the same many-universes problem. Something to revisit when we get around to paring down the infoboxes.
Wouldn't this essentially just be restating the 'Enemies' parameter?
Hypothetically, “Cause of Death” summarizes the exact cause of death of a character/kaiju, which can be something as common and brief as “old age” or “natural causes”, or otherwise something more specific and wordy such as “kiss of death”, “obliterated by [insert]”, “implement through the [insert]”, etc.
”Killer” would simply name the character/group/kaiju/etc directly responsible for killing the subject individual at hand.
On my test zone for potential infobox parameters, in the first infobox on the page, I’ve tested out “Cause of Death” and “Killer” with the Sandbox for Island Girl (Skull Island) in mind.
i actually kinda like this idea, it would be nice to see a cause of death parameter.
Thank you.
