Shimo is a reptilian Titan[4][3] who appeared in the 2024 Legendary Pictures film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. She[6] is one of the film's antagonists, alongside the Skar King. Her Playmates toy's packaging describes her as a "legendary ice Titan with unstoppable, world-ending powers" who opposes Godzilla and Kong.[4] Her existence was first alluded to in the 2022 Call of Duty collaboration with Godzilla vs. Kong, depicted in a cave painting engaged in battle with Godzilla.[7]
Name
Shimo (霜) is a Japanese word meaning "frost" or "gray hair." Shimo also means "hole" or "abyss" in Swahili. Her name was first revealed on a Jada Toys Metalfigs figure at the 2023 Singapore Comic Con.[8]
Development
Shimo was designed by Jared Krichevsky.[5] According to him, Shimo was originally intended to be male.[9]
Design
Shimo is depicted as a reptilian monster with some similarities to Godzilla's evolved form. A quadrupedal creature with white scales that have an iridescent sheen, she possesses Stegosaurus-like thagomizers on the tip of her tail and crystalline spines down her back, both of which are a blue color. The spines cover her entire back and thin into a line of spines going down the length of her tail. Shimo is also adorned with many crystals arranged in a crown-like formation protruding at a horizontal angle from the back of her head. A continous row of sharp scutes located on her sides run from where the back of her head connects to her neck to the thagomizers on her tail. Despite her large size, Shimo's abdomen and legs are very slim. Her eyes appear to be blue with black pupils, though her pupils are obscured when she glows bright blue. While Shimo assumes a bear-like stance when quadrupedal, merchandise reveals a silhouette of the creature taking on a fully upright posture.[10]
Personality
While under Skar King's control, Shimo was ruthless and aggressive, violently causing widespread destruction and attacking everyone around her, however she appears to do this unwillingly as exemplified when she appeared to struggle and hesitate firing her beam at Kong during their initial encounter. She noticeably becomes much more docile when liberated from Skar King's influence, no longer posing a threat to the Kongs and even collaborating with Godzilla, Kong, and Suko to defeat Skar King. After defeating Skar King she appears to be friendly to Kong and Suko enough to let them ride on her back willingly and showed affection as Kong petted her head.
Origins
She is the Mother of Titans as she created the titans and she is also the oldest out of Titans as she was the very first titan on earth. [citation needed]

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Just as there may seemingly be a round two about to take place in Skar King's lava lair, Skar King unveils an icy crystal that controls Shimo. Just as some side apes adjust a boulder to stop a bit of the lava flowing on one side of Skar King's domain, he points the crystal at Kong. Shimo emerges from the freshly revealed cave, and after Kong acknowledges her, with one more "persuasive" motion of the crystal, Shimo utilizes her frost bite blast, resulting in Kong's arm becoming frostbitten, leading him to eventually need the B.E.A.S.T Glove.
Shimo is later seen again in Skar King's lair. She's released from her bone chains, only to be ridden into battle towards the Iwi protection wall. Suko spots them as they are approaching the wall, and Suko travels to warn Kong. While Kong, after having been warned, is off on his quest to recruit Godzilla, Skar King breaks down the wall, and he, Shimo, and the rest of his apes enter the Iwi's domain. Skar King uses the crystal yet again, pointing it at the pyramids, to which Shimo shoots another frost bite blast, her icy abilities freezing the pyramids in place. They're about to strike, Kong and Godzilla nowhere in sight yet, but then Trapper leads in Vertacenes, electrical, bird-like fauna of the Hollow Earth; they swarm the invading group, to which Shimo is forced to work to attempt to freeze them. In the midst of the chaos, Kong and Godzilla arrive from Egypt. The two teams rush at one another right as the ice holding off the pyramids gives way; gravity in that section of the Hollow Earth is now massively distorted. Shimo crashes into Godzilla in the air, but Godzilla is able to push her down before the battle is resumed. Shimo is able to get a good blow in as she is able to freeze Godzilla momentarily, but, as she does so, she's instantly smacked in the face by Mothra. After a rough fight, gravity returns to normal, and Shimo and Skar King fall into the portal which leads them Rio De Janeiro. is seen again at Skar King's lair and they release her from the chains and Skar King rides on her to travel to the Iwi protection wall. Suko also finds them as they are approaching the wall and Suko travels to warn Kong and them.Skar King breaks the wall and shimo and the apes enter and Skar King uses the crystal and points it at the pyramids and Shimo freezes it stopping the two pyramids from clashing into each other, After that unknown birds attack Shimo and the apes and Skar King uses Shimo to freeze the birds. Shimo then battles King Kong and Godzilla but before they could strike the ice breaks and the pyramids clash into each other resulting no gravity.Shimo crashes into Godzilla in the air but Godzilla pushes her down and they continue to battle.Shimo Freezes Godzilla freezing him instantly but only to be smacked in the face by Mothra after a rough fight gravity returns to normal and Shimo and Skar King fall into the portal which leads them Rio De Janeiro and waves in the sea all turn into ice and Skar and Shimo both fly out and Skar King uses the crystal and Shimo fires her frost bite blast into the sky and into the city.Kong and Godzilla then arrive and battles them Shimo is pushed into a building by Godzilla and she and him continue to battle.When Skar King is beaten up by Kong, Skar King uses the crystal and Shimo's tail smacks Kong which he flies across.
Thanks to Shimo's, the waves in the sea all turn into ice, and her and Skar King both come flying out of the Hollow Earth's portal. Skar King, once again, uses the crystal on Shimo, commanding her to fire her frost bite blast into the sky, causing a sudden change in the weather as the skies darken. She then turns her attention to the city, coating the skyline with massive, icy shards, decimating the city that was well and alive moments prior. Kong and Godzilla then arrive to continue the battle. It's another back and forth. Shimo and Godzilla roll over one another and slam each other into buildings. There is then a momentary lull in the battle where both Kong and Shimo are out of commission, and Godzilla is able to separate Skar King well enough away from the crystal that controls Shimo. However, it is not Godzilla who destroys the crystal, but rather Suko with Kong's axe. Skar King is then tagged team by Kong, Godzilla, and even Suko. Shimo watches this intently, prominent curiosity on her face, as she is now freed from Skar King's tyrannical rule. She then joins in on the team-up, freezing Skar King in place. Kong grabs Skar King's frozen body, staring him in the face, before smashing him into pieces upon the ground.
Kong and Suko then return to Skar King's old lair, triumphantly riding upon Shimo's back. They hop off of her, Kong offering her a few head pets, before all three of them roar in victory before Kong's new tribe.
Abilities
Frost Bite Blast/Breath
Shimo is capable of releasing an ice beam from her mouth. This ability is referred to as a Frost Bite Blast or Frost Bite Breath on the packaging of her individual Playmates figure, as well as the Godzilla vs. Shimo figure set.[4][11] Shimo is shown using the beam to freeze over Kong's axe and arm, and to cause a massive ice storm by firing it into the sky. During the former, the beam creates large ice chunks upon contact. The beam was powerful enough to give Kong frostbite and completely freeze the Skar King's body once free of his control. When using the attack, Shimo's eyes, back spikes, and thagomizers glow a bright blue. It was stated in the ancient template tablets that Shimo’s ice breath was responsible for triggering the Ice Age millions of years ago.

Freezing Temperatures
Along with her Frost Bite Blast’s capabilities, Shimo’s mere presence is capable of freezing her surroundings, first evidenced with the ground in Skar King’s lair icing over. The forests in the subterranean realm of the Hollow Earth froze as she walked through them alongside Skar King and the apes as they approached the Iwi civilization. The waters off the coast of Rio de Janeiro even froze when she emerged on the surface after passing through a portal from the subterranean realm.

Shimo was shown to be able to utilize her tail when she smacked Kong with it, sending him hurtling through the air and into a building.

- The cave painting of Shimo seen in Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted first appeared in the Godzilla vs. Kong/Call of Duty crossover event close to two years prior.
- At 162.45 meters, Shimo is currently the tallest of any known Titans in the Monsterverse, surpassing King Ghidorah in height by 3.65 meters. However, she is not the largest overall as she is surpassed by the ~258-meter-long Tiamat and ~274-meter-long Na Kika.
- Shimo is the second confirmed-female monster to be a primary antagonist in a Monsterverse film, after the female MUTO in Godzilla (the gender of the Skull Devil from Kong: Skull Island is unclear).
