Cloverfield is an American science-fiction horror anthology franchise created by J.J. Abrams and produced by Bad Robot Productions and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The franchise is known for its intricate alternate reality game (ARG) featured prior to the release of all entries involving a mysterious Japanese deep sea drilling company Tagruato and its subsidiaries as well as other groups of interest including T.I.D.O Wave and various characters whom are featured throughout which directly lead up to the events that unfold in each respective film.

Starting with the 2008 found footage giant monster film of the same name the film was inspired by the Godzilla (franchise), With series creator J.J Abrams expressing his desire to make an american giant monster icon on the same level as Godzilla However the franchise would later shift into an Anthology approach eight years after the release of the first entry with the release of the loosely connected second entry 10 Cloverfield Lane released in 2016 and the following third entry The Cloverfield Paradox in 2018 however the currently upcoming fourth entry in the franchise will serve as a direct sequel to the first entry in the series

Monsters

Every entry in the series thus far has featured monsters both serving major and minor roles in each respective entry. The following is a list of all monsters and creatures that have appeared in each film thus far

  • Clover - A giant amphibious sea monster that appeared in the first entry of the franchise that was awakened by the Chaui station and made landfall in and terrorized New York City. But is ultimately killed by the hammerdown protocol.

It makes a brief appearance once again in The Cloverfield Paradox where it is heavily implied that it is an Extradimensional Creature that was brought into different realities via the activation of the Shepard Particle Accelerator

  • Clover's Parasites - Dog sized Skin Mite-like creatures that dwell on the monster which numerous fall from it”s body and actively hunt humans with a lethal bite that causes those affected by it stomachs to explode out from their body
  • Alien Spaceship- Biomechanical alien creatures that appear during the climax of 10 Cloverfield Lane that had launched an invasion on North America their arrival coincided with a Red Flash as witnessed by Astronauts aboard the International Space Station and Emmett DeWitt. One of which was destroyed by Michelle but more are seen as she heads to Houston, Texas
  • Mutant Space Worm-Quadrupedal scout creatures deployed from the biomechanical spacecrafts to track and hunt humans that avoid gassing from the ships one of which hunts Michelle

Trivia
