This article concerns an upcoming subject, and will be updated with new information as it arises. |
An untitled Cloverfield sequel will be directed by Babak Anvari and written by Joe Barton. Set to be produced by Bad Robot, it will be the fourth entry in the Cloverfield series. Producer J.J. Abrams initially announced the project as a direct sequel to the original 2008 film unlike the last two entries,[1] though subsequent reports have made the connection more ambiguous.[2] Paramount Pictures will distribute the film theatrically, though it has not yet announced a tentative release date.
Development
Cloverfield director Matt Reeves, screenwriter Drew Goddard, and producer J.J. Abrams all expressed varying levels of interest in making a sequel to the film in the years following its premiere, though Goddard described "difficulty syncing our schedules up" in a 2012 interview.[3] In 2016, Paramount Pictures released the loosely-connected 10 Cloverfield Lane, followed by Netflix's The Cloverfield Paradox in 2018. In April 2018, Abrams revealed at CinemaCon that Bad Robot was developing "a true, dedicated Cloverfield sequel."[1] Further news on the project did not emerge until January 29, 2021, when The Hollywood Reporter announced that Joe Barton would be writing the script.[4] It also learned that the film would be traditionally filmed, eschewing the original film's found-footage approach.[4]
On April 16, 2022, Barton cryptically replied to a Twitter inquiry on the status of the film with emojis of an alien, a city, and a thumbs up.[5] That September 23, Deadline reported that Babak Anvari would direct the film, with Reeves and Goddard returning as executive producers.[2] The article also reported ambiguity over whether the new film will be a direct sequel to the original film or another anthology film, contrary to previous reports and statements by Abrams.[2] On October 17, 2023, 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg seemed to affirm that the film is a direct sequel to Cloverfield in an interview for Cinemablend, though his connection to the project, if any, is unclear.[6]
On May 2, Barton responded to an inquiry on X (formerly Twitter) about the film's status, confirming that it still had not been shot; when asked whether it is in development hell he responded, "That's definitely how I'd describe it."[7]

On April 4, 2023, Discord user @EliteFreakozoid discovered an active web address for Slusho.com which had originally redirected to Slusho.jp.[8] One day later, the Slusho.com website would update and feature a layout similar to the original Slusho.jp website, but with the only interactive option being able to mix Slusho flavors.[9]
