Bambi Meets Godzilla is a 1969 90-second black-and-white animated short cartoon made by Marv Newland.[1] It played before Godzilla 1985 during its American theatrical run and on home video.[2] The Academy Film Archive preserved Bambi Meets Godzilla in 2009.[1]

In 2013, animator Coda Gardner made a frame-by-frame recreation of the original via tracing the film frames and assembling the animation via digital video editing.[3][4]

Bambi Meets Godzilla was listed at #38 in the book The 50 Greatest Cartoons (1994).[5]

Plot

Bambi the fawn eats grass during the long opening credits. Suddenly, he sees Godzilla's foot above his head and tries to run away, but the giant steps on him, killing him instantly. After the end credits, Godzilla's claws twitch once.

Unofficial sequels

Two slightly longer unofficial sequels to this short were made without Newland's involvement or permission: the black-and-white cartoon Bambi's Revenge (1976), using similar techniques as the original,[6] and the 3D-animated color cartoon Son of Bambi Meets Godzilla (1999).[7]
