- February 8 - Actor Yoshio Tsuchiya passes away at the age of 89.
- March 3 - Shin Godzilla becomes the first kaiju film to win Picture of the Year at the Japan Academy Awards. It also wins Director of the Year, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Lighting Direction, Best Sound Recording, and Best Film Editing.
- March 10 - Kong: Skull Island is released to American theaters.
- March 30 - Principal photography on Pacific Rim Uprising concludes.
- April 7 - Colossal is released to American theaters.
- April 12 - The first issue of Skull Island: The Birth of Kong, a four-issue sequel comic for Kong: Skull Island, is published. It will conclude on November 22.
- May 7 - Director Yoshimitsu Banno passes away on May 7 at the age of 86.
