Arachno-claws are arthropod monsters who appear in the 2005 film King Kong and the 2021 MonsterVerse film Godzilla vs. Kong.
Name
In Godzilla vs. Kong, the Arachno-claws are only named in the film's English audio description.[2][3] They were called "Rock Critters" in concept art and "crab-creatures" in the film's novelization. Artist Ken Barthelmey said the creature had no name in the brief.[4] PUBG Mobile labels them as "Rock Crabs."[5]
Design
In King Kong, Arachno-claws resemble a mixture of a crayfish and a spider. They have six legs and a pair of pincers. They have two antennae on their heads and dark brown glassy eyes. Their whole body is covered with a crab-like armor.
In Godzilla vs. Kong, Arachno-claws are more crab-like, with carapaces that resemble boulders when half-submerged in the ground.
Ecology
In the universe of the 2005 King Kong remake, Arachno-claws laid their microscopic eggs in carrion of the chasm floor, but most were either eaten by carrion eaters, or drowned in the slime that coated the pit's bottom. They were then ingested by Carnictis, in the guts of which they hatched and lived as stomach parasites until they pupated and emerged from the rectum as miniature adults, already capable of scavenging for food.
History
King Kong (2005)
Arachno-claws were present along with several Carnictises and Weta-rexes in the chasm into which several Venture crew members were sent plummeting by King Kong. One Arachno-claw grabbed a Venture crew member, then the other two tore him apart.
MonsterVerse
Godzilla vs. Kong
As Kong dashed through the Hollow Earth, his footfalls awakened dozens of Arachno-claws half-submerged in the earth. One was swiftly snatched up by a Foetodon.
Abilities
Pincers
Arachno-claws have a pair of strong pincers.
Camouflage
In Godzilla vs. Kong, Arachno-claws use their boulder-like carapaces to blend in with the ground of the Hollow Earth to hide from predators.

Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World
While hiding under tree roots in a jungle clearing, Ann Darrow was set upon by an Arachno-claw before running away and being rescued by Kong.
King Kong (2005)
When the Carnictis crawled out of the earth to attack the crew of the Venture, the Arachno-claws came out of the darkness to seize the opportunity. After Jack Driscoll stabbed a Carnictis to death, two Arachno-claws approached from behind as several others devoured Lumpy and Choy. Filled with rage and despair, Carl Denham began to smash the attacking crab-spiders apart with a club. The survivors tried to stave the creatures off, but were quickly surrounded with Arachno-claws and other creatures emerging from their burrows. However, gunfire from above saved them as other humans began blasting the bugs apart with bullets, forcing them to retreat.
Godzilla vs. Kong: The Official Movie Novelization
The Arachno-claws act the same as they do in the film, although they are attacked by several Foetodons instead of just one.
Comics
King Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World
When the crew of the Venture was pushed by Kong into the Skull Island chasm, the Carnictis and Weta-rex came to prey on them. As the lesser predators were scared off by gunfire, the Arachno-claws moved in, but when one attacked Jack Driscoll, it was shot to death by the rescue party.
