Separate Page for Ren?

I know we were probably expecting to add this version of the Human Vapor into the existing human vapor page, but seeing as how Ren is more of his own character in life than in death (as the Human Vapor), I think we should make him a new page. We can add more information that way (and use the infobox tabs for living, vapor form, and statue).

Of course, this leaves the question of what we are going to do with the existing Human Vapor page… But let me know what you think. --BioRobot2002 (talk) 00:52, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

I haven't started the show yet, but if the Human Vapor's real name is different, it may be better to make a new page, yeah. Worth noting that a number of the other leads have the same names as the film's characters though (including Kyoko Kono).--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 02:58, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

I watched the original film a couple months ago, so I can’t totally comment, but I think their names, professions, and romantic tension are the only similarities that carry over. The Kyoko in the 2026 series has a totally different motive and backstory than the 1960s original. (I can’t really say much without spoilers, I’m sorry! :’D) Overall, everyone has a lot more backstory than the original—a bit obvious, considering the runtime gap—but Kyoko’s deviates at critical points from the original, so I think she could get her own page. And hey, if not, I can merge it into a general page with the film version. Come back and let me know what’s best after you’ve watched it! :) BioRobot2002 (talk) 03:36, 3 July 2026 (UTC)

I finished watching the show today, and though I see where you're coming from, I personally think the two sharing a page is fine. Being a kaijin, he's obviously much more human than most "monsters" we cover, but I'd say given the page title we are treating it more as a monster page than a character one. Our policy with those has always been putting all incarnations together unless it's one of the special few we decide to split up. As far as Ren's differences pre- and post-Vapor, he certainly behaves differently, but the show doesn't treat them as separate people. It's not a case like Ultraman from Shin Ultraman, where I would advocate we have separate pages for him and Kaminaga because they are definitively distinct entities. The only real questioning of the Vapor's identity that we get is in the finale when Okamoto asks whether he's really Ren or "just something that looks like him" (or something like that), but Kono continues to believe he is Ren. --Les (main | talk) 19:23, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

I see; that all sounds good to me! (I think the wording Kenji uses is “a monster wearing his face” iirc) I started on a merge last night in my FormatTester sandbox (https://wikizilla.org/wiki/User:BioRobot2002/Sandbox/FormatTester9000), and I would not mind if you wanted to edit or change up anything that’s already in there at any point, although there’s not much in there right now. (Also, just checking: I noticed you put Kyoko under the Human Vapor monster list— Does she go on the page as well? That can stay on Kyoko's page. Only reason I formatted the Appearances section like that is because it seemed weird to have "Human Vapor" (not Ren's real name) and then "Kyoko Kono" (a real name), so that was a way to get Ren's name in there. I realize Kyoko is never technically associated with the Human Vapor name though, so perhaps it's a bit inaccurate. I'm open to changing it. --Les (main | talk) 22:26, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
