Age

Even if his father worked at Toho, he would not have been an assistant SFX cameraman on Toho's FX films at only ten years old. Either the age claim or his credits are dubious -- he's not credited in any of the Showa-era films listed here, so I can't confirm he actually worked on those.

Does anyone here have either of the sources referenced at the Japanese Wikipedia page? --The H-Man (talk) 22:54, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately not. His earliest credit in the Toho site directory is Storm Over the Pacific (1960), which would've made him 12 years old at the time if the birth year is true. Seems more likely, then, that his being born in 1949 is simply false. Les (main | talk) 01:25, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
I also just noticed the biography on Wikipedia says he joined Toho after graduating high school. Perhaps "1949" was a typo of 1939? If he was born in '39, that would make him 20 by 1959 which is more logical. Les (main | talk) 01:27, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, that's probably more likely. Astounding removed the date altogether but maybe our page could have "Born: Uncertain" with a note stating Japanese Wikipedia's listed birthdate is uncited and is almost certainly an error. The H-Man (talk) 16:49, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
That sounds best, I just wanted to get it out of there. So many edits to come back to!--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 16:50, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
^^^Les that's what I thought I apologize for my lack of information to back it up. --Kaiju No. 14 (talk) 8:56, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

Credits

I don't have Crazy Adventure or Zero Fighter to check, but for literally every other film in the "assistant cameraman" section, he's uncredited. That doesn't mean, however, he didn't work on the films (Toho only credited the principle crew), but it does make it rather hard to verify the information on this page.

Furthermore, he's not credited in Bye-Bye Jupiter -- that film doesn't have complete crew credits, either, but they're far more extensive than the SFX credits in the '60s and '70s movies. The Japanese Wikipedia page assigns him the "合成" credit, but in the film, that credit goes to Takeshi Miyanishi. Album of all the Jupiter sfx credits.

The "Special effects cinematographer" credits are correct (although I can't check the Submersion TV series).

I don't know how to proceed. Remove the unverified ass't cameraman credits and the page is even more of a stub than it already is.The H-Man (talk) 17:39, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

The Toho site's film database credits him as an assistant special effects cinematographer on a decent number of films. Not as many as on Wikipedia, though. The safest bet would be to remove everything the Toho site doesn't mention. Les (main | talk) 18:28, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
