Gamera the Giant Monster: part of a Japanese double feature or not?

Daimajin1966 (talkcontribs)

Question: was Gamera the Giant Monster part of a Japanese double feature like its first six sequels were, or did this just start with Gamera vs. Barugon and Daimajin?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)
Daimajin1966 (talkcontribs)

Thanks! Then this should be mentioned here as well. If this can be done, that'll be great!

Daimajin1966 (talkcontribs)

Thanks a lot! Good job! Now we've got everything Showa-wise for Gamera.

Daimajin1966 (talkcontribs)

I just found this out a little while ago: the film that's in the double feature with Gamera the Giant Monster is the only such film of the Showa Gamera double features that doesn't have a Wikipedia article. I ought to know, I checked it out.

Btw, the Wikipedia article on this film's director calls it New Kurama Tengu: Duel at Gojo Hill. Which English-language translation of the title for it is correct, this one or the one used in the article on here for Gamera the Giant Monster, which is New Kurama Tengu: The Battle of Gojo Hill?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

I just went with the translation Les used on the Daiei page, so you'd have to ask him. Doesn't seem like much of a difference though. Unfortunately, the UniJapan issues on archive.org don't go back to 1965, so I'm not sure if it has an official English title.

Les (talkcontribs)

I think "of" is more accurate to の, but they're both valid translations. As ABB said, unless there's an official title, it's really just a matter of picking one.

Daimajin1966 (talkcontribs)

Okay, thanks. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if it took us a long time to find it what it is. After all, look how long it took to change one Daiei film's title on this website from The Whale God to Killer Whale.

Hiya toys page edit warring

3
Zillaman98 (talkcontribs)

there's been edit warring on the Hiya toys page one user keeps undoing edits specifically about the heat ray godzilla figure insisting its the 2019 godzilla because it uses the same sculpt as the 2019 figure but hiya toys itself calls it the godzilla vs kong godzilla.

what should be done in this situation its clearly the 2019 figures sculpt but the product itself says its godzilla vs kong?

Keeri'ijra (talkcontribs)

I suggest simply saying something along the lines of, "despite the figure's name, it uses the same sculpt as the 2019 figure", in either the description of the figure itself or trivia.

Why exactly was that deleted?

It was a sandbox and could of just been left alone until more direct information surfaced.

I didnt think it was harming anything and it would be useful to have it on hand when we learn more about the monster.

Les (talkcontribs)

I don't think it serves any purpose. It was just a collection of unverified information that somebody could stumble across and believe is fact. We have literally seen this character for all of five seconds. When there is actually something to be written about him, then there can be a sandbox.

Zillaman98 (talkcontribs)

Information that could of eventually be resourced and rewrittened

I kinda fail to see how deleting it is helpful and it should of been left alone until more info surfaced, deleting it entirely just seems a tad bit Unnecessary and it could of been useful to already have something already up to edit when the infomation did surface rather than starting over from nothing in my personal opinion.

Les (talkcontribs)

Starting from a sandbox that would have to be completely rewritten is arguably more work than starting from scratch. It was not useful.

Biollante is not Immortal?

3
Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

I was watching "Godzilla vs. Biollante" and found an interesting dialogue were Dr. Shiragami states Biollante is not immortal.

https://wikizilla.org/wiki/File:Biollante_Imm.jpg

I wonder if this is a translation thing, can you solve my doubts, please?

Les (talkcontribs)

The Japanese line is 「永遠の植物が死ぬはずがない」 which seems to be saying the opposite; something like "An eternal plant cannot die." The subtitles on the Miramax DVD instead translate it as "It can't die after all. It's immortal."

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

Thank you!

Terror of Mechagodzilla edit

3
Daimajin1966 (talkcontribs)

Why remove ..."(original United States tile)" from The Terror of Godzilla? That's exactly what it is; it even says that in the U.S. release section. It only became Terror of Mechagodzilla after that.

Les (talkcontribs)

I mostly reverted that chain of edits for the other changes, but The Terror of Godzilla is the only title that's unique to America. Terror of Mechagodzilla is the international title, which means Toho was marketing it that way in other English-speaking countries before it ever reached the U.S.

Daimajin1966 (talkcontribs)

Okay, thanks.

Zillaman98 (talkcontribs)

Why was that undone?

I feel the teaser is obviously implying that thing isnt our kong

With the two skulls glowing with the colors of our kong and godzilla.

The thing anatomically doesnt look like the kong we have been following either and we have put placeholder names for creatures that appear in trailers, teasers before havent we?

Les (talkcontribs)

I don't feel confident in saying what it is with only that short teaser. We also don't know if this is even a shot from the movie, or just a stylized promo. If we don't know for sure, then there's more harm in stating it confidently than just waiting for more information.

Zillaman98 (talkcontribs)

I dont think it was a shot in the movie itself because it looks low quality but i do think its safe to assume this guy isnt like vishnu and was just made for a proof of concept teaser and it probably is in the movie itself.

But i wont add it back.

Ogon Bat/Golden Bat

Lamango (talkcontribs)

Hey, do you happen to know if there's a list of kaiju and kaijin from the anime Golden Bat anywhere? I can't find one anywhere.

Starro from The Suicide Squad

3
KaijuMan (talkcontribs)

I don't know if this topic has been discussed beforehand, but because James Gunn confirmed that Starro was a kaiju, and how The Suicide Squad is a kaiju movie, as much as it's a comic book superhero movie, do you think it should get its own section?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

We don't automatically cover non-Japanese kaiju movies, and The Suicide Squad doesn't have enough influence from the Godzilla/Gamera/King Kong series to qualify under the Scope rules. We also have a provision in that section about not covering "films which could be sufficiently covered by another available wiki" (otherwise we'd have to cover the entire DCEU if James Gunn ever directed a Godzilla movie, which I think was the exact example I used).
