Talk:Godzilla in popular culture

Apart from the listings swiped from Toho Kingdom, this is a seriously long page. I'd recommend we pare it down -- chronicling every roar and namecheck seems like overkill, and they drown out the more elaborate homages too.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 02:13, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

We once had a discussion about this and were throwing around random ideas like giving some things their own pages or shortening down some sections to provide some examples, but I don't think these discussions ever actually led to anything. Deathrock9 (talk) 10:45, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Made a list of potential cuts: http://pastebin.com/BXKBEGQB Most are just passing references; a few are too generic to even be called references (like The Amazing World of Gumball). We should use the TV References' format throughout the page, screenshots included, and break them down by medium.--Astounding Beyond Belief (talk) 13:43, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

I think that maybe passing mentions should be put on a separate page and actual references stay here in a better format. Titanollante ( roar to me! | my footprints! ) 20:40, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Alphabetical order mistakes

I love this article! Only a few mistakes as far as alphabetical order is concerned:

Television:

  • The Fairly OddParents and Family Guy go after DuckTales in that order.
  • SCTV goes after Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
  • Remake Our Life! goes after Pucca.

Video games

  • The Simpsons: Bart's Nightmare goes before Sonic Adventure.
  • Wizard101 goes after Transformers Legends.
  • Everything after Yo-kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits is out of alphabetical order.

Comics

  • Heathcliff goes after Garfield.
  • Sonic Super Special goes before Steven Universe.

Music

  • "Godzilla" (Eminem ft. Juice WRLD) goes after "Godzilla" (Blue Öyster Cult}.(talk) 17:47, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
The video games are now alphabetically sorted. Harryhenry (talk) 08:32, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
Thanks! One question, though: do you consider The Simpsons: Bart's Nightmare to be under "T"? In the Television section, The Simpsons various episodes are all under "S". Just wondering.(talk) 18:31, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
The general rule is that suffixes like "The" should be ignored when alphabetizing. So yes, it should be under "S".--Harryhenry (talk) 03:20, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Just saw most of everything listed here was fixed. Thanks again! All that needs to be fixed now are the Eminem reference in Music and the Sonic Super Special reference in Comics and it is done!(talk) 05:39, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Those have now been sorted as well. Harryhenry (talk) 15:18, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Yes! It's done at last! Thanks to all involved!(talk) 18:58, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
I spoke too soon; I just found another goof: Iron Man: Armored Adventures should go after Invader Zim.(talk) 05:49, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
Never mind, I did it. It took me a while, but I did it. Now it's done at last!(talk) 21:46, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

One question. Does K-On! The Movie go after Kate? If so, please let me know so I can fix it.(talk) 21:51, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

As someone who just added the example to the main tables, I think the general rule of thumb is that titles with a singular letter (Like K-On!) are listed first, so there's no problem there. Harryhenry (talk) 12:35, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the confirmation; I'll leave it alone.(talk) 14:51, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Found another one:

Miscellaneous

  • Kaiju Yokai Dai Koshin should go after IKEA TV commercial.

Can someone please fix this, as I've got no idea how to write out Japanese names. Thanks!(talk) 04:17, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Well, it took me a while, but it's done.(talk) 12:50, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

Picture error

Could someone please fix the photo error on The Awful Truth? I thought I put it in right, but it's all wrong somewhere and I can't find it anywhere. Thanks!(talk) 18:00, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

UPDATE: Never mind, I found it.(talk) 20:51, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Add more images and references

Hi, I noticed that the reference to Mothra is missing, in the kirby anime, in "Caterpillar Thriller" (Counterattack of Mosugaba! in Japanese), where things similar to the 1961 movie happen. (By the way, in episode 61, Dedede saw a movie of a dragon with a similar face to Godzilla that made the scream of this one). Besides, I have the episodes in their highest quality where these references appear (including Ebizou and Ebifryer). -Sasha V, エアロビ天国GOGO HEAVEN! 23:23, 24 july 2022 (UTC)

Is it only about Godzilla?

When I attached videos about King Kong to this page, they were immediately deleted. But when I removed the references to Rodan and Anguirus from this page, they were returned. Rodan and Anguirus are not Godzilla either. What's the matter then? Vadim Ozaki (talk) 01:40, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

Strictly refrences to the Godzilla franchise including other characters from it, Kong is a seperate Franchise and doesn't belong here. Zillaman98 (User talk:Zillaman98
Then what about "KING KONG CA$H" advertisement? 2005 King Kong is not part of the Godzilla franchise. Vadim Ozaki (talk) 01:55, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
Are allusions to Kong: Skull Island appropriate for this page or not? Vadim Ozaki (talk) 02:18, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

Mockbusters

There are references to Godzilla in The Asylum films. If mockbusters are not discussed on this page, where is the better place to write about them? Vadim Ozaki (talk) 02:15, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

Asylum films with Godzilla references in them are fine, it's the Asylum films that are entirely kaiju mockbusters (like Ape vs. Monster) that are beyond the scope of this page. Harryhenry (talk) 08:56, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

Television section in need of fixing

Could someone please fix the Television section quickly? I tried to put The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in alphabetical order after someone put DC's Legends of Tomorrow before it instead of after it like it's supposed to be and somehow I messed up the two photos from it. I've tried everything that I can think of to get it back to normal and it still won't do so. Thanks!(talk) 01:32, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

I just fixed it, a "|" that's supposed to indicate where the images go was missing. --Harryhenry (talk) 03:49, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, Harryhenry! Now, do you think that you can please find a way to get rid of that thin gap between The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and DC's Legends of Tomorrow? I can't figure that one out, either.(talk) 06:24, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
