Is the 1954 Godzilla Film Canon to the Following Mangas?

Hi, I hope that you're safe and happy!

I know that you know some Godzilla mangas, and I have a minor question for you related to some of them, if you don't mind. Do you know of Godzilla manga adaptations where the 1954 Godzilla film is generally considered canon to them? I'm mostly interested in knowing if that film is canon to the following Godzilla mangas:

• SD Godzilla World

• Shogakukan's Heisei Godzilla Movies Adaptations

• Kodansha's Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1992)

• The Godzilla Comic

Minor Bump

Please, I would appreciate any help.

Please, bro. I need some help, and I don't think that my question is that hard to answer.

i think godzilla 1954 is canon for the godzilla comic and kodanshas king of the monsters, but i haven't read them yet.

still crazy how no one was able to help

x2 Minor Bump

The 1954 film isn't canon to SD Godzilla World: Godzilla-kun

This is a pretty complex question and well beyond what the mod team can be reasonably expected to answer - only two of these works have been fully translated (The Return of Godzilla by Dark Horse and Godzilla, King of the Monsters by lsdjellyfishu). Of the chapters in The Godzilla Comic that have translations (they're all standalone stories), only "Godzilla's Resumed Earth Defense Battle" references the '54 film, with Serizawa's nephew appearing as a major character. The Return of Godzilla manga states repeatedly that a Godzilla attacked Japan 30 years, but doesn't get any more specific than that.

Ok, thank you so much!

So, is Kodansha's Godzilla, King of the Monsters a sequel to the '54 film? I'm asking because that manga series has several references to multiple Showa and Heisei Era movies.

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

I've not read the full thing, so I'm not sure if there are any specific references to the original film in there. As you said, the manga plays pretty fast and loose with continuity, and I'm not aware of any outside sources that try to iron out its timeline, as we've enjoyed with the films.

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

Ok, thanks.

I have another question if you don't mind. I remember that the Godzilla Island Series showed scenes from the Toho movies in some episodes. Does this mean that those films are canon to the Godzilla Island Series?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

No, those stock shots are used to represent what the kaiju are doing in the present, not flashbacks. References to past events are pretty minimal (the only one I can recall offhand is Lucas calling Gigan a difficult opponent Godzilla faced in the 20th century).

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

In which episode was it mentioned that Gigan was a difficult opponent for Godzilla in the 20th century?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

32.

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

Ok, thank you so much for the information.

Btw, do you mind if I ask you from where Wikizilla obtained the official bios of the 1954 and 1990s Godzillas from Godzilla: Unleashed? I couldn't find those bios in the game manual.

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

No idea, those have been on the site since before the fork. Could be transcribed from the game itself or the now-defunct official site.

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

Could this IGN article be the source? If so, could we link it to the Godzilla page?

https://www.ign.com/articles/2007/11/15/godzilla-unleashed-monster-reveal-4

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

If it wasn't the same source we used, it's certainly citeable. Thanks for finding it!

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

No problem!

Btw, is it true that Grandpa Zilla is the Original Godzilla but in an alternate timeline (Godziban)?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

I can't definitively say no because I haven't watched all the subtitled episodes yet (and plenty of others haven't been translated yet), but I haven't come across anything to that effect.

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

I have another question: How do you know that Kodansha's Godzilla, King of the Monsters manga is set after Godzilla vs. Mothra and not Kodansha's Godzilla vs. Mothra?

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

I haven't read the Kodansha Godzilla vs. Mothra manga, but basically all our page on it says is that Godzilla kills Battra by punching through his head, and his head's intact when he's discovered frozen in King of the Monsters.
